Pelosi Says She Will Impeach President Trump If He Doesn’t Resign “Immediately”

Lol you’re just butthurt he’ll be impeached twice and only managed one term. What a pathetic reputation to leave behind.

Yeah but it's a waste of time. After Republicans take leadership of the House next election, we are going to have to impeach Biden twice instead of once. We could use our time for better things.

You're actually planning to impeach before the official EVEN TAKES OFFICE, let alone commits any act.

You've completely surrendered all claims to objectivity here. Buh bye.

It appears that the House and Senate can prevent a President from ever being able to hold elected office in the U.S. government again if they see that person as a threat to the country because of their actions. If the House and Senate pass it, it becomes law. I doubt they would have it in the articles of impeachment if it was not constitutional.

They can't prevent anything unless Trump was committed of a crime while in office. You need 2/3 of the Senate for that during an impeachment.

Impeaching Trump now could bar him from public office in the future.

While it may seem pointless to impeach a president just as he is about to leave office, there could be real consequences for Mr. Trump beyond the stain on his record. If he were convicted, the Senate could vote to bar him from ever holding office again. Following a conviction, the Constitution says the Senate can consider “disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”

Only a simple majority of senators would have to agree to successfully disqualify Mr. Trump, who is contemplating another run for president in 2024, an appealing prospect not just to Democrats but to many Republicans who are eyeing their own runs.

How Congress Could Impeach Trump Before His Term Ends (msn.com)

More importantly, the house can wait until the new Senators are seated after Biden is inaugurated to start the trail against Trump in the Senate. They need just 17 Republicans out of 50 to vote with them to convict Trump. Then after that, they just need a simple majority in the House and Senate to disqualify Trump from ever being able to hold elected office in the federal government ever again!

Impeachment would be a political mistake which my Dems specialize in. Everyone is against Trump now. Impeach him and a spark of support kicks back up and the right is regalvanized . Keep them on the defensive.

That doesn't make sense at all.

You're saying let him get away with sending goons to overthrow the Congress. Guess what that means for future goons.

And we shouldn't do anything to encourage it either. If you want to register, register. If you want to vote, go to the polls and vote.
Voting is like free speech. You do not try to silence peoples voices or their votes. The solution for both is to encourage as many voices to educate the electorate. And as many voters to elect the will of the people.

Proving that she is the one who is mentally unfit to remain in office, Pelosi makes this absurd, insane, and knowingly inflammatory declaration knowing (or not) President Trump will be out of office well before she could EVER get her latest coup attempt out of the House and to the Senate.

For all of the Democrats' talk of wanting to UNITE the country, this comment was made with the intent to piss off millions of Americans and further divide the nation....

....either that or she's just BATSHIT CRAZY!

Unlike last time, Democrats will have a majority in the Senate as of January 15. While it takes a 2/3 majority of the Senate to remove him from office, it only takes a simple majority to permanently bar him from ever holding public office again. Say goodbye to a 2024 rerun.

That is AFTER conviction in the Senate which would require 17 out of 50 Republicans to vote for it. Its more likely now that you will get those 17 Republicans than you were last year. Then After conviction, the Senate can vote to disqualify the person from ever holding elected office again. Its in that vote, that only a simple majority is required.

Oh really.

Like Rump himself?

Like the Military? Or anyone else not home during an election?

Like everyday citizens in Washington and Utah and AridZona who have been running their elections by mail REGULARLY?

And you somehow muddled through the last twelve months WITHOUT NOTICING there's an infectious pandemic going on, which spreads in places of densely-packed people, such as a polling place where people are known to have to stand in line for HOURS???

And ALL OF THIS sailed right over your head, did it?

Like I said, Democrats have been pushing mail-in for years long before the virus for the reasons I stated. The virus was just an excuse. People go shopping all the time: grocery shopping, drug store, Walmart, fast food. Voting is no different. I have comorbidity and 60 years old, and I went out and voted in person. They were actually much stricter than bars and Walmart.

Mail in is fine for people who simply cannot get to the polls, but it should be restricted to those people only. If you're in the military, going to be out of town, live in a nursing home and can't get to the polls, physically impaired, that's understandable. You should have to request a ballot, when returned, the signature must match, and I have no problem with that. But that didn't happen in some places this election.
Oddly enough, the places you want to change these voting laws are led by Republican legislatures. Everyone has the right to vote, and if they want to do it via mail-in, so be it. Just because you didn't like the outcomes doesn't make your argument right. Put down that cup of voter suppression, it's reveling who you really are.... pssst "Anti-American."
Baloney. True voting is done in person with the exceptions Ray stated. He is exactly right and its the only to ensure quality control of the votes. No wonder you are against it.

Since when?
Since when what?
True voting is only by person?
Of course with the legitimate exceptions noted. And virus ballots ruin the quality control.
No evidence to support that.
Just the massive increase in mailins with no quality control on the ballots is evidence enough. Impossible to verify all those ballots in the timeframes supposedly done. Should never have been allowed to do a mailin ballot because of the virus.

So you would have preferred to call off the election altogether. Unless of course your guy could win.

Not sure you're getting the concept of "choice" here.

The constitution prohibits bills of attainder.

The constitution does allow the Senate to disqualify a President who was impeached and removed from office by the Senate to vote on whether to disqualify them from ever holding elected office again. That vote only requires a simple majority to pass and become law!

We will have to agree to disagree. I think the more people who involve themselves the better, regardless of party.

You can give a person a ballot, but you can't make them vote. We have freedom of choice when it comes to voting.
It's still purely voluntary whether they have to work for it, or it's given to them without effort.

Fair involves giving everybody equal opportunity to vote, by making it as easy as possible.

uld know about Wickard V Ferguson. It formed the basis of every gun control, and drug control law.
Oh please, I'm sure anybody could bring up a case you or I know nothing about. Again, that's not what I'm saying here. You're talking history, and I'm talking about current basic political knowledge.
Why do republicans know about Roe v Wade, and nothing about Wickard V Ferguson.
Every drug law is based on Wickard. Every gun control law is based on Wickard.

But because it exposes your voting education has holes in it, you think it trivial.

Hey moron, you cannot impeach someone who is no longer in office. Must you always prove what a dipshit you are?

The highly educated see the big picture, but like the big picture that means that they are out for the species, and not for the individual
And you believe your own tripe, i.e. the highly educated and well off are the real saints, the ones who put the needs of the poor ahead of their own personal comforts and pleasures. :"Let's see, should I spend $2 million on an even bigger house, or should I give that money to dig wells for clean water in Mozambigue and provide food for the thousands of malnourished children who are dying? I need the luxury home."

You use the words "the big picture" like it means something. The democrats' idea of the big picture is destroying the civility and soul of this nation.
I characterized the well educated. The well off are a completely different story.

They are often the very opposite as the highly educated, thinking only about themselves, and what's in it for them. They are not in it for the species.

That is incorrect. Read the following:

Trump can still be impeached as an ex-president.

History gives little guide on the question of whether a president can be impeached once he leaves office, and House lawyers were racing to understand the legal and constitutional issues.

There is precedent for doing so in the case of other high government officers. In 1876, the House impeached President Ulysses S. Grant’s war secretary for graft, even after he resigned from his post. The Senate at the time considered whether it still had jurisdiction to hear the case of a former official, and determined that it did. Ultimately, the secretary was acquitted.

Michael J. Gerhardt, a constitutional scholar at the University of North Carolina who testified in the last impeachment proceedings, wrote on Friday that he saw no reason Congress could not proceed.

“It would make no sense for former officials, or ones who step down just in time, to escape that remedial mechanism,” he wrote. “It should accordingly go without saying that if an impeachment begins when an individual is in office, the process may surely continue after they resign or otherwise depart.”

So what do you think Admiral? Wouldn't that be AWESOME if Trump was disqualified from ever holding elected office again?

The Republican Party and the corporate-controlled Democrats are relics of the twentieth century. They represent the dying, semi-skilled blue collar dream of what Industrial America was. This has enabled big-money political contributors to turn the U.S. Treasury into their own, unlimited source of of tax-free cash, driving federal debt rapidly into the trillions.

Without voter suppression and other forms of election fraud, the GOP cannot survive. But, the death of these corporate stooges will likely be too late.

Man-made or human-influenced Climate change is at or beyond the point of no return, and the fact that the RWNJs believe it's a hoax gives those same Republicans and corporate-controlled Democrats the time to make it irreversible.

So, the future is an unanswerable question currently, because Biden will be no help at all.

So we have eliminated all of the well educated who also happen to be well off? I would guess 80% of the well off males are well educated. Did they lose their passion for others (“the big picture”) once they became fairly wealthy? We seem to be agreeing on that much.

But if the left is run by the well educated they are in favor of many troubling things. Like turning children's’ minds into sexual degenerates, be it our education system or entertainment industry. You champion perversion, gender confusion, gay is awesome, abortion is cool, experiment. Only one who says God does not matter would agree. Your well educated hated Trump for stopping the insanity at our southern border, for lowering the unemployment of blacks and Spanish speaking folks, for getting rid of insane regulations destroying American industry, you hate him for brining jobs back from foreign nations, you hate him for raising the morale and readiness of our military, for supporting our police, for taking out violent gangs, --- while your well educated lefties protect illegal alien felons in sanctuary cities. Trump offers Chicago, Baltimore, etc. help for their horrible urban plight and the well educated left refuse. Apparently pride and resistance is more important to you than the safety and well being of your citizens.

So what will be the relevant changes to the climate over the next 20 years, and how will that impact life and politics in the United States?

No !!!

The entertainment industry is run by the rich, not by the well educated.
They have diametrically opposite goals.
And except for private colleges and universities, the education system is run by the states, which are run by their elected politicians, not by the highly educated.

Great. Get Trump out of office ASAP. He's unfit for the job and is a danger to America.

Problem is, that's gonna happen unless he resigns. I am completely against this. It's a waste of time. The House will vote along party lines. You may get a few Republicans to vote with you but it won't be many. You need 2/3rds of the Senate to convict and remove. Unlike the House whose procedures can be sped along, there is due process in the Senate, where there is NO Republican that will want to go down this road again. I really wish progressives could see the bigger picture here. You won. Trump handed you the victory. You have the House Republicans cucked for the moment running for cover. You have Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, and Josh Hawley who have just had their NUTS handed to them! You take back control of the Senate shortly. Trump is gone in 12 days. The Republicans just got done pissing away every gift they got on November 3rd. You have your boot on their throat. And you're poised to not only let them up, but give them new life in the process.

Trump is gone in 12 days. He's done. He ain't coming back. Wednesday was a sickening day. But the end result is that you just had a bunch of MAGA inbreds not only blow up Trump's future, but kneecap the Republican party. Stupid to risk giving that all back to make a point when it has NO chance of removing him from office. Pence and what's left of the cabinet will NOT invoke the 25th. Let it go. Focus on your upcoming agenda. Let the Republicans eat each other and run from Trump screaming like scalded dogs.
That's a great argument IF you trust that Trump hasn't got more mischief in mind. 12 days is plenty of time. Twitter just permabanned him, so it may slow him down a little, or it may make him so angry that he explodes.

The other thing is, he seems to have dreams of running again and holding on to his base, thereby continuing to control the Democratic party. This was one of his last tweets today:
"The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!"

Twitter felt that could keep his revolutionaries stirred up, and then he tweeted very simply that he would not be attending the Inauguration. That gives the green light to his army to plan another rush there, Twitter suspected.
So I think it's a toss up.
