France is proposing to hold a peace conference in Paris this summer between the Israelis and Palestinians. Who here is for it? (I am.) I think this is a good litmus test to see who is for peace on this Board and who is not. Prediction: By the third answer, a century's worth of history, repeated ad naseum, will be dredged up by the cynics, towards no productive end.

I welcome it as it will show were the real block to peace lies. Lets see which side refuses to talk about peace first, and wants pre conditions met
 
Why the Palestinians Say Never

Even if we limit ourselves to just the past 22 years since Israel agreed to the Oslo Accords that placed the West Bank and Gaza under the rule of the PA, the history of the on-again, off-again negotiations reveals a very different story. That’s because every time the Palestinians sit down to talk with the Israelis, they are given pretty much all of what they claim to want. In 2000, 2001 and 2008, that meant Israeli offers of statehood and independence that would give the PA almost all of the West Bank, Gaza and a share of Jerusalem. But the Palestinians said “no” each and every time.

What's the point? Nothing will be accomplished
I happen to agree. Neither Israel nor the Palestinians will give up on their preconditions and nothing will happen. Whether France recognizes Palestine or not the occupation will continue.

I happen to agree. Neither Israel nor the Palestinians will give up on their preconditions and nothing will happen. Whether France recognizes Palestine or not the occupation will continue.






The only pre conditions on file are those originally started by Arafat in 2000, repeated ever since by the Palestinian negotiators to stop the talks dead.

The yard stick that the Arab Palestinians need to recall is that the objectively, no party to the conflict should issue threats (Example of latest Hostile Palestinian threat: Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has threatened to attack an ammonia storage facility in northern Israel, a move he said would pack the punch of a nuclear weapon, resulting in hundreds of thousands of fatalities) to use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.

Hezbollah is a radicalized Shi'ite --- Militant Islamic Resistance Group formed primarily to oppose the Israeli occupation and what is often termed a pro-Western interference in Middle Eastern Arab Affairs.

Again, this demonstrates the ongoing need for Israel to establish borders which they can defend.

Well, let;s see. There must be 7,000,000 Israelis who want peace.

As to the Palestinians, there must be at least 50, and maybe even as much as 100 who want peace.

When the numbers become closer to even, there will be peace. As long as Palestinians want to kill Jews more than they want peace, there won't.

It's the Palestinians who are setting all the preconditions; Return to Borders that were never recognized, land actually belonging to " Israel Proper" and the eventual annexation of Israel to Palestine. Tell us please what other " offers" the Palestinians have made.

It certainly can't hurt - I'm all for it. Maybe France can accomplish something no one else has :)
