I am working. My job is actually deemed critical infrastructure and an essential service. Most of us are working from home. I have to go into the office at least once a week.

Let's say, the number of new cases in your state or town stops rising and hangs in there about 500 new cases a day and 50 deaths both down from the peak. What do you think the governor is going to do? Announce an end to restrictions? Not going to happen, because the new cases and deaths would just return to their upward trajectory. The most likely outcome would be a slow return to normalcy, maybe the opening of smaller restaurants with a table spacing of a minimum of 6 feet and a maximum of 4 to a table, some selected state and national parks openings, healthcare facilities like offices of dentists, opticians, etc would start doing routine procedures; sporting events that typically draw small crowds and small meetings and conference would startup, schools and various bushiness openings, and masks require most everywhere. As long as the rise in new cases is moderate and can be handled by the healthcare system, more restrictions would be lifted.

If as predicted the virus is seasonal and it comes back hard in the fall, restrictions would go on. I suspect this will be the pattern for a year or so. By then there should be a vaccine available, most probably several antivirals that are effective against the virus and most of the population would have an immunity from either having been infected, vaccinated, or having a natural immunity.
