I do not believe the disunity that I think we have today in this country is made up by the media, and in fact might be worse than we realize. There are agitators out there stirring up resentment and discord, and to deny that is to deny reality IMHO. Approx half of the country has concerns/doubts about the results of our last election, and the other half is telling them to STFU and move on. That's some serious disunity. We have people being viciously attacked without reason in our streets for being a different color or religion or creed, WTF is that? We've always had our differences, but was it always this violent and without reason? I don't think so, there used to be a reason, like pro or anti-slavery and racism, pro or anti-union, pro or anti-war, etc. But I don't remember a time when a defenseless older person was so viciously beaten and maybe killed because they were Asian or Jewish or merely different.

Not all of that is due to the media fanning the flames. If it bleeds it leads has always been true but nowadays we got way too much bleeding. True, IMHO the media today has a lot to answer for because they ain't as objective and unbiased as they oughta be. Journalistic ethics and principled reporting has gone out the window in too many cases, partly due to politics and partly due to money (sponsors). But I look at our nation as a whole and wonder how the fuck we are going to turn things around, cuz right now it feels an awful lot like we are circling the drain.

It's my opinion that the media plays a bigger role than you suppose. Also it's everywhere now. It's on TV 24/7. It's on social media 24/7. If Donald Trump scratches his nuts we will hear about it. These days it seems harder and harder to escape political lunacy. Also over time the media has gotten better and better at stringing our emotions. Their entire objective is to get more people viewing. They're going to exaggerate and even lie to see that happen.

Think about it though. In the 60s-80s you had literal mafias still running parts of the country. Violent crimes were through the roof. There was tragedy all over the world. Maybe it didn't seem as bad because there wasn't 24/7 sensationalized news trying to pump fear into your veins.

Life remains good in the United States. That will continue to be the case. Some political turbulence and nutty media are not going to destroy the greatest nation on Earth. Have faith my friend. Good will prevail.

BUT - we are being fed too much bullshit from the media, and they only tell us the stories they want us to hear and see while leaving out a lot of stuff that runs contrary to their agenda. And even worse, the young people are growing up in an education system that isn't teaching them how to think but what to think. You've probably seen the numbers about how popular socialism is now vs 20 years ago, right? That ain't good.
