Our Country Music Chat

Last night, my youngest daughter and I attended the Grand Ole Opry's 100th Anniversary show in Nashville. We saw Bill Anderson, Mandy Barnett, Suzy Bogguss, T. Graham Brown, Steven Curtis Chapman, Henry Cho, the Gatlin Brothers, Vince Gill
the Isaacs, Jamey Johnson, Dustin Lynch, Kathy Mattea, Charlie McCoy, Scotty McCreery, Lorrie Morgan, Gary Mule Deer. Riders In the Sky, Ricky Skaggs, Don Schlitz, Marty Stuart, Pam Tillis, The Whites. and Mark Wills all played. Trace Adkins and Connie Smith were also supposed to be there but were both ill. It didn't matter!

Bill Anderson is the oldest living member of the Opry. He joined when I was a year old! He is now 88 and still going strong. I saw Lorrie Morgan perform with her father George for the first time back in the early 70s at Freedom Hall in Louisville. We are almost the same age. She was a last-minute sub for Trace Adkins/ Connie Smith.

Vince Gill played the voted most popular song in country music history when he sang George Jones' He Stopped Loving Her Today. Before he sang, he said he had only sung the song once before, and that had been 3 hours earlier (at the first show).

Incredible is too weak a word to describe it. The entire cast both opened and closed the show.
It was the 2nd of two shows, and we didn't start until 10:30 last night. The show ended at about 1:45 the next morning, which officially kicked off the Opry's 101st year. I finally got home at 3:15 this morning.

The show was incredible. Thanks to Vet Tix who provided us with seats just left of center stage, about 14 rows back. It was a dream come true and I will never forget it!

Funny little addition: When we got back in the car, I selected Classic Country on my Amazon Music app and it randomly played 4 songs we heard in the show! My daughter said Gid has a funny sense of humor.

^^^ I listened to the Saturday night Opry through the WSM website. My reason is right here. :) :) :)

God bless you and him always!!!

Holly

P.S. His 8th appearance is this Sunday night. I just pray that nothing else challenging is dumped on his plate. At the 9:08 mark of the clip, John talks about almost not being able to get there that day. I can't thank the Lord enough for keeping an eye on him because sadly late lady legend Dottie West was not as lucky on September 4, 1991. :( :( :(

What a wonderful show it must have been. I watched some of it on YouTube.
Whisperin' Bill is still amazing!
I had the wonderful good fortune to see Vince Gill in concert this summer. He is in my Top Three musicians (the other two being Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton) and his show was stunning. Never a wrong note, this beautiful tenor voice, his incredible guitar playing (and his band's great players too, including Tom Bukovac and Jedd Hughes). I love Vince because he's still true to the soul of the music.
