One of the biggest arguments people have about our healthcare system is the illusion of “choice”

Do we or do we not spend more on healthcare than countries with UHC?

Are you including the massive tax rates and long waiting lists?

I prepared this before the tax cuts but the outcome wouldn't change much except for a lower cost in the US.

No, not really. I want it more affordable for everyone. It can not continue on the path it is on.

There are only so many ways to make 'health care', a product, more affordable.

1. Pay doctors less --- punish doctors
2. Pay nurses less -- punish nurses
3. Not allow hospitals to make a profit -- removing investment in Health Care
4. Pay less for medical equipment -- punish workers and investors in companies that innovate medical equipment
5. Pay less for pharmaceuticals -- same as number 4
6. Subsidize any or all of the first five -- punish the taxpayer.

The bottom line is ... medical care is a business. It costs money. The only way to pay less for it is to take that money from someone else.

So, who do you want to rob first?

LOL. You’re terribly uninformed. The billionaires and millionaires fund presidential campaigns. They control legislation via their lobbyists. Their people run the regulatory agencies, thus granting them government protection. It’s a racket the Mafia can only dream of.

Wake up. They run the country, but you aren’t smart enough to see it, even though it’s it’s right in your face.

Why do you believe that unsuccessful people are better prepared to lead the greatest country in the world?
Who’s unsuccessful?

Obviously, anyone you think is better suited to running the country than successful people.

Why do you believe that unsuccessful people are better prepared to lead the greatest country in the world? Somehow you skipped this question. Why?

Successful people? The ones we had to bail out? Because that is who is running the country.

That is quite an illusion. Many people have illusory ideas about this and other aspects of society. Fixed ideas from the past in general qualify. Many profound changes will occur. They could be for the better if we use wisdom and compassion.

Seeing as you have zero idea as to what my income, expenses, and family's medical needs are, or that of the other 300 million people in this country, you are in no position to assume anything.
Lol I don’t need to know you and your family’s needs because all that matters is statistics.

No, all that matters is your own hubris and naivete.

How can there be choice, when must Americans are dependent on their employer for their HC?

Employers and employees receive a tax benefit when the employer supplies health care as part of total compensation. This includes the self-employed.

But, no one is prevented from seeking health insurance as a private individual.

So you feel choice is important?

Guess when there is no choice? When Sanders has made private insurance illegal and nationalized the industry. That's also when any sort of RnD and innovation stops.

Again you’re failing to comprehend. The point made above was Americans believe they have a choice, but they really don’t.

Americans have more choice than under Bernie's totalitarian system.

And you feel you'd have more choice under a government program?

If you want to change the subject as opposed to address what I said, i am wasting my time.

Why do you think they do not have a choice? Is it because you are stupid?

Most middleclass at one time had employer health care coverage. More and more places are either leaving for cheaper places to manufacture or doing away with the health care coverage all together. “

Your links are flawed.

Mine are not :)

You have a choice ... pay for healthcare or don't.

What other choice do you want?

What we should want is to end the monopoly by the insurance companies, that make us prepay 10 times more in health insurance than we could ever need.
It is not only that they make us pay too much, but that by prepaying, we lose all control over costs or quality.
We can not withhold payment over a dispute, because we already prepaid.

I myself have paid in more than half a million in premiums, and never once went over the deductible, so got nothing.
Likely never will.

And clearly poor people should not be denied just because they can't pay.

You know the rich and middle class would need to pay more in taxes with a Medicare for all system, but they would still ultimately save money by not having to worry about monthly premiums, prescription costs, Co-pays, and high deductibles.

Seeing as you have zero idea as to what my income, expenses, and family's medical needs are, or that of the other 300 million people in this country, you are in no position to assume anything.
Lol I don’t need to know you and your family’s needs because all that matters is statistics. Statistically, medical costs is one of the top reasons Americans file for bankruptcy.

You pay for your health care, I'll pay for mine ... then there's no reason for either of us to steal from others.

That makes no sense because no one is supposed to ever pay for their heath care.
The way insurance is supposed to work is that you pool the risk among all the people.
Everyone pays in a small amount and when someone get sick or injured, everyone pays for it out of the pool.
But these days, insurance companies are acting like a monopoly, charging much more than the actually use costs, by more than a factor of 2.
And that amounts to extortion.

The OP is right, we need more free market principles in health care. A lot more choice...

No one size fits all socialist bullshit in a country of 315 million.
