OMG, the women are storming the Supreme Court and demanding recounts!!!!!

Matt Gaetz is a model avatar for the Republican Party’s manic culture war. As a far-right reactionary currently under investigation for sex crimes, he checks several boxes of hypocrisy so often seen among the GOP’s moral crusaders. It makes sense, then, that he delivered the best encapsulation of the socially conservative right’s response to pro-choice protests now sweeping the country.

“How many of the women rallying against overturning Roe are over-educated, under-loved millennials who sadly return from protests to a lonely microwave dinner with their cats, and no bumble matches?” Gaetz asked on Twitter on Wednesday morning.

War on women! This should help us liberals in November.
dont bank on the slaughter of babies helping the vile left in nov ! remember dems rely heavily on the uninformed vote ! many dem voters will be shocked to learn that they have been voting for baby killers !

Nice try

Stare Decisis. [Latin, Let the decision stand.] The policy of courts to abide by or adhere to principles established by decisions in earlier cases. In the United States and England, the Common Law has traditionally adhered to the precedents of earlier cases as sources of law.

Do you know who warned us that the new conservative justices were not following Stare Decisis? Sandra Day O'Conner. That's right. A conservative judge appointed by Reagan. Even she knew what the right wing wackos were doing wasn't right.

Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark case that legalized abortion, had been the law of the land for eight years. But it was under constant attack from the religious right — then as now. And because O'Connor was a woman who had presided over the Arizona State Senate when it decriminalized abortion, she was suspect, even though she declared her personal abhorrence for abortion.

"Too frequent overturning of precedent, she felt, undercut the court," said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond.

Some justices wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade, notably Antonin Scalia, who would bring it up in discussion of other decisions, such as Lawrence v. Texas, which overturned state sodomy laws — that is, laws that targeted gay sex.

So it's no surprise to someone smart like me who's been wise to what the right wing has been trying to do since the late 70's. Not buying your bullshit.
It's not my bullshit.
The fact remains that just because a court case in the past screwed up it doesn't mean you have to follow it.
The landmark case you speak of was based on flawed logic.
Unless congress makes a law that legalizes abortion at a federal level....abortion should have always been decided at the state level.
Congress has to get the votes to make it legal....and they haven't done that.
It's not because they don't have a case.....it's because they have to convince enough members of congress to buy into it.
My suggestion is get over 60 votes in the Senate create an amendment that supports their beliefs and then Roe vs Wade would have a legal basis....a basis outside of just "Well....that's the way it was always done".

They said the same thing about slavery before they ended it thru legislation.

You should have told them if they voted for Trump you'd ban abortion. I told them, but you told them I was just lying. That the Republicans would never try to outlaw abortion. Now we see they lied. You lied. You are a liar. This is what women get for trusting/believing the Republican party.

I called it the Republican war on women.
Anyone that believe Republicans wouldn’t outlaw abortion shouldn’t be allow to vote…

Gorsuch is the one that surprised me and I agree they need to explain their vote and if it conflicts with what they said under oath then sorry they must be removed from the Court and have their vote nullified…

Were any of them asked if they would be willing to overturn Roe v. Wade? Can settled law be overturned or, for lack of a better word, "unsettled"? Was it once settled law that women and blacks couldn't vote?

I'm hardly a legal scholar, so these are honest questions...

Were they questioned about their intentions?

Well, I guess when Clinton lied to a grand jury that proved that all democrats were lying.

Smarten up and don't belch out such nonsense...

I don't know that I would necessarily disagree with that, although we do need to allow for the fact that ideals and opinions change. Let's not forget that, at one time, it would've been perfectly legal for a Supreme Court Justice to own Clarence Thomas...
Well I think we all know that Republicans/Conservatives beliefs on what constitutes life is not very popular with the masses. It's not murder to get an abortion. At least it wasn't a month ago.

We know that 70% want abortion to remain legal

We know that most of your arguments for banning abortion are going to be religious ones

We know that you will lie and say you don't want to ban abortion but then in the next sentence you will argue that it's murder. So you can stop pretending. Just be honest.

And don' be obtuse about the Supreme Court and when they were questioned, they lied. They didn't say what they were really thinking. Abortion is murder and if I'm a justice I will do everything I can to make it illegal. These are all Heritage Foundation judges. Do you know what that means? I believe they have to sign a pledge that they will overturn Roe V Wade if given a chance. And all the Bush/Trump judges have been Heritage Foundation Judges.

Nice spin. Very clever. Liars.

This is going to cost you the midterms. And general election. Enjoy being the minority party. We will just pass some legislation to get around this Supreme Court injustice.

This is what happens when Supreme Court nominees lie in their confirmation hearings. All of them said Roe was settled law. Now they are doing what us liberals told you all they would do. They would try some very slick way to go back on their words.

No one is buying it. You lied to get on the high court. Funny Bill Clinton was a monster for lying about having an affair but we're supposed to be ok with them lying about their intentions?

I told you all Republicans were lying. I told you all this was coming. Now do you believe me?

What we are demanding is let's review their confirmation hearings and disbar them for lying under oath.
SO? Up till the 1950's segregation was settled law...so the **** what?

JO

Senate is too divided for that to happen.

70% of Americans think abortion should be legal. How many women 18-45 believe it shoud be legal? Probably more than 70%. I'm talking about women of child baring age. Of course a small percentage of them will be bible thumpers but the majority of them are not going to be happy you took their right to choose away.

“If this draft opinion becomes precedent of the court, the results will be catastrophic for women, particularly for women in the states that will immediately make abortion unlawful, and in those places, particularly for young women, poor women, and Black and brown women who will not have the time, resources, or ability to travel out of state. The court’s staggering lack of regard for its own legitimacy is exceeded only by its vicious disregard for the real consequences for real pregnant people who are 14 times more likely to die in childbirth than from terminating a pregnancy.

I just can't believe women aren't going to punish Republicans this November and in 2024. If they don't, elections are rigged.

Hate to tell you the midterm elections will still go to the GOP and the 2024 election will also go that way as long as inflation is high, gas prices are high and if we have a economic crash then expect a massive slaughter in 2024…

Abortion is not going to be the first thing people will vote on in November…

Thus you basically laid out the entire purpose of the leak. This may pull back some of the base......but not every woman in America is a baby-killer. Especially the millions of Catholics Biden let thru the Southern borders.
I don't think this will cost the mid-terms. The hatred for Democrats is only reinforced every time you pump gas or look at your grocery bill. Millions of people will vote with their pocketbook....not over an issue that only effects a minority of people.
The general election will depend on who's in charge and how they handle this issue.

Never mind all of the parents Biden called Domestic Terrorists. They're not going to forget that.

Nope. Those young women don't give a **** about inflation.

P.S. I still see you guys are hoping for that economic crash you hope is coming. It's not.

  • Hiring in the manufacturing, transportation and health-care sectors helped the U.S. economy add more than 400,000 jobs in April.
  • Leisure and hospitality, the industry that saw the largest one-month pop in job gains, added 78,000 jobs during the first month of the second quarter.
  • “We’re seeing [strong numbers in] the manufacturing sector — we saw some great growth, we’re very happy about that,” Labor Secretary Marty Walsh told CNBC. “We saw some good growth in retail as well.”

Yea but at that time probably 51% thought segregation was wrong. What percent think abortion is wrong 30%?
Depending when you want to perform the abortion?

First trimester you have my solid support but after that it has to have a good reason and birth control is off the table for banning including the morning after pill…

All indicator’s that told me the crash was coming in 2007 is telling me the same thing and young women are not the majority in voting and in midterms you have low voter turnout which give the GOP the advantage…

2024 is a wait and see…

Can't these women abide votes!!!!
Taken with the name of the thread I take it you are confirming that the desire to legally stop women being able to legally and safely have abortions is misogyny.

No we don't have your solid support. You want to ban abortion PERIOD. Hell, I bet eventually you'll make the morning after pill illegal too. Even birth control.

We now have to treat this like gun legislation. You don't give us an inch because you believe it's a slippery slope. Now we see any negotiations with you regarding abortion is not in good faith. You're lying. You want to all out ban it. Just like you think we want to confiscate all your guns.
