Because you have to steal more than $1,100 of merchandise before the cops come out, all the Walgreens in SF closed down. Nobody can stay in business when people walk in and take what they desire with impunity. Other smaller stores are right behind Walgreens.

Do you really want to stop gun violence? Then vote Republican and write to your representatives to go after the bad guys with the guns. If it were up to me, carrying an illegal firearm would land you a minimum of five years in prison. If the gun is stolen, another five years. Committing a crime with a gun, a minimum of 20 years. Killing somebody in the commission of a crime with a gun, automatic death penalty.

My wife had 2. There is a physical toll. It messes up your joints. It can bring on diabetes. it can bring on other physical issues. Our first caused a hernia that had to be operated on. our second made a tiny cyst grow to the point of requiring a hysterectomy. And there is an emotional toll of carrying for 9 months. And to force a woman to go through that for a child that is not wanted is cruel.

As opposed to forcing the child to go through being killed for convenience? I'd have to say, "You need to be dismembered because something unpleasant might happen to me. Your life would matter if I wanted it to, but I don't so you're garbage" sounds pretty cruel to me.

In the United States, poverty is a choice often inspired by government social programs. But there are plenty of people who actually grew up poor and laugh at what we consider poverty that became successful and productive members of our society.

My father grew up here in a house the size of a three car garage. They had no indoor plumbing or electricity. He and his five siblings never spent a day in jail yet alone prison. His sisters married and raised a family. He and his brothers joined the military. My father fought in Korea. When talking about it, he often jokes that he joined the Marines just to see what it was like to get three square meals a day. After the military, my father and a few of his brothers joined the construction industry. Two of them had their own businesses.

Our so-called poor people today live in nice homes, sometimes in the suburbs provided by taxpayers. They have just about all the amenities that working people have: washer and dryer, microwave oven, big screen television set, cable or satellite television, cell phone and in most cases a smart phone. If you challenge me on this, I have several links supporting what I say, including one from the US census bureau.

People who commit crimes today do so out of opportunity and not survival. There are plenty of good paying jobs, but they won't come knocking at your front door. You have to put in a little effort to get them. I ran across this story yesterday in my local news site. I kept it because it was my former occupation and to point out the nonsense about no good paying jobs around:

It seems the penalty for rape there is 1 - 15 years. First offense would be much less time than performing an abortion.
