Um, my wife is a Chinese national. She works hard, most of her friends work hard. If Americans had the Chinese work ethic, we could solve 90% of our problems. We used to. We lost it.

Chinese students add to our academic life by bringing in new perspectives and scholarship. That's why Universities are so happy to get them.

Universities are happy to get them because they pay full tuition up front.

They are not unaccompanied. Often the father will make a nice chunk of money in China and then send his child with just the Mom to live and take care of him or her while they’re in elementary or middle or high school in the US. Sometimes husband and wife are separated for years in this way. Alternatively, some students are sent to boarding schools where their daily needs are taken care of and the parents visit during school vacations and such or the student goes back to China during things like Christmas break or what have you.
