In his letter, Obama said that he already “produced 12,2880 pages of presidential records in response to special access requests from the White House and Congress. This use of the special access process serves no legitimate purpose and does not outweigh or justify infringing confidentiality interests that all presidents have sought to protect.”

Those records remain confidential until the Pres has been out of office for a certain number of years. It is standard pro forma with the Archives. The ex-Pres can approve release of documents early, which he did.

Here's one extreme reason - There is a time limit on certain crimes. If the information is not allowed to be released for a certain number of years the clock is being 'run out'.

Transparency is the main reason I oppose it. For example, I still can NOT believe a bunch of 'Servants Of The People' sealed the Kennedy assassination information away from US citizens...I call BS on that one.
