It's not terribly complicated. Why is Israel's friendship so expensive? People generally like the people who give them money
The US began to take Israel under its wing on Day One, after it declared Statehood.
Something about feeling sorry for the survivors of the Nazi death camps and their persecution by all that EuroTrash.
Not to mention that we were the only ones left on our feet, after the EuroTrash bled themselves to death for the second time in a quarter-century.
Not that many of 'em would have lifted a finger to help the Jews reclaim their old spiritual homeland, even if they had been in a position to do so.
So, we took the World's Tiniest Underdog, and kept a watchful eye on them, until they could stand on their own.
They proved themselves capable warriors and able to hold their own in 1967, so we turned-up our support by several notches, and took 'em on as a client-state, to offset what the Soviets were doing in the Arab world at the time, and in accordance with our resolve to help them to set up for themselves after the Holocaust.
By 1973, we were full-on military allies in most respects, and committed to replenishing the munitions they burned-off in kicking Arab ass yet again.
Since then, it's been a mutually beneficial relationship... we throw a billion or two or three at them, and it comes back to us in arms sales, creating jobs, and all that.
Our friendship with Israel has been a bone of contention in the Islamic world, and that's unfortunate, but, we like Jews better than Muslims, anyway, so no big deal.
And, when some Militant Muslim group or another comes and knocks down a building or two of ours, we teach a grim lesson, by knocking down a country or two of theirs, in response.
By now, it's down to us refusing to budge from our friendship and alliance with Israel, as much to teach the lesson that we refuse to be bullied and told whom we may befriend and whom we may ally-with, and whom we may not. Uh-uh, no way, ain't gonna happen... and we refuse to cave-in to such pressure.
Does the relationship get a little expensive sometimes? Yeah. Then again, what good is a friend, if it won't stand by you, through thick and thin.
Hell, the Israelis are probably better and more reliable and fiercer friends and allies than a few of our other allies.
The situation ain't broke, so, no need to fix it.
Obumble's seeming attempts at sabotage to the contrary notwithstanding, and all that goes away on January 20, 2017.
