More to the point, the NYTs is stupidly making yet another wrong global assumption. First they assumed pot was harmless, now they see their errors. Thing is, if they were wrong the first time, how do they know they got it right this time?

Pot is neither good nor bad in of itself. People keep trying to make blanket determinations; pot like most things is highly affected by the individual. Some people can smoke all day long and never hurt a thing, go right on with whatever they do, while others are just not mentally, physically or spiritually suited to it. One puff and they are an idiot. Some people get stoned and they do stupid things, make terrible choices, make horrible decisions, while other people take the stuff in stride.

And that totally ignores an even less understood aspect: for thousands of years, pot was used as an avatar in religious practices to bring themselves closer to God. For some people, combined with other agents, THC fits right into a receptor site in the brain that unlocks enormous human potential.

But here we go again with the typical one-size-fits-all mentality--- it must either be GOOD for everyone or it must be BAD for everyone. Whatever happened to prescribing it by people qualified to determine who uses it, by how much, and for what? I mean: we don't let 10 year olds drink, and we don't sell Thorazine over the counter.

I have no problem with it being legalized. That would shut down some of the illegal drug trafficking. Just because it's legal doesn't make it safe though. Just look at regular drugs, alcohol, prescription or over the counter. None of them are safe for the body. They do damage.
