NYT: We Were Wrong About Marijuana

It’s Time for America to Admit That It Has a Marijuana Problem

Thirteen years ago, no state allowed marijuana for recreational purposes. Today, most Americans live in a state that allows them to buy and smoke a joint. President Trump continued the trend toward legalization in December by loosening federal restrictions.

This editorial board has long supported marijuana legalization. In 2014, we published a six-part series that compared the federal marijuana ban to alcohol prohibition and argued for repeal. Much of what we wrote then holds up — but not all of it does.

At the time, supporters of legalization predicted that it would bring few downsides. In our editorials, we described marijuana addiction and dependence as “relatively minor problems.” Many advocates went further and claimed that marijuana was a harmless drug that might even bring net health benefits. They also said that legalization might not lead to greater use.

It is now clear that many of these predictions were wrong. Legalization has led to much more use. Surveys suggest that about 18 million people in the United States have used marijuana almost daily (or about five times a week) in recent years. That was up from around six million in 2012 and less than one million in 1992. More Americans now use marijuana daily than alcohol."

This comes as no surprise. Progressive fools are virtually wrong about everything.

NYT cares about the legal profession, not Americans.

The LEGAL PROFESSION wants it illegal, because it leeches money when it is illegal.

Marijuana is the ultimate big government bullshit. Government spread factless fear. Government made it illegal. Lawyers made tons of money. The "Reefer Madness" movie fooled most of the self proclaimed sub humans.

Michael Phelps the greatest swimmer in human history = marijuana user
PacMan, LeVeon Bell admit to using marijuana before NFL games in which they played at a HOF level
Sha Carrie Richardson, champion sprinter, marijuana user

Global Warming is the same shit. The Legal Profession wants to use CO2 FRAUD to leech.

When the conservative side panders to the leech, no value added legal profession, America suffers.

Marijuana is a test. Are you a conservative? Do you want Americans to have freedom and self determination, or do you want to parrot government bullshit, get scared and hateful, demand government intervene, bilk and harm America, and enrich and empower the legal profession further, all because you are too stupid and hateful to see the reality of it.

I hate marijuana. I'm scared. I want BIG GOVERNMENT and the LEGAL PROFESSION to save me = YOU ARE NOT A CONSERVATIVE.

Never heard of anyone getting violent after smoking, unlike alcohol.

That's the same completely discredited BS as Reefer Madness.

Alcohol makes people violent. Reefer does not, just the opposite.

Government manufactures faux "crisis." Government uses faux "crisis" to expand, grow, take away rights, allow Mikey Bloomberg to have NYPD pull over 911 Truthers, plant drugs on them, and arrest them, the actual testimony of former NYPD.

Marijuana
Islamic "terror"
CO2 FRAUD
Covid

All BULLSHIT manufactured by the supporters of big government, big spending, the attorney lobby, and The ALLIANCE FOR TREASON AGAINST AMERICA.

You should know better than just to blindly parrot this BS.

I doubt marijuana, which is much stronger today than back in the 70's, is healthy for the seriously mentally ill.
If you have a study to the contrary, throw up a link.

People with other conditions. That’s totally different than alcohol. FAIL!

They were only wrong about the greater use. Clearly it was silly to expcet no greater use

Other than that they were correct. There are few downsides.

.... Perhaps it was Penn & Teller during the era of A.D. who perceived the need for a diversion and diligently conjured up the theory of botany, though rested on the Seventh Day for a toke. :smoke:
There's a doomsday seed vault up in the arctic, so just in case we have another flood ...

That depends.

Weed fertilised by free-range chickens gives the best quality of nutrients where mildness, flavour, and smoother taste really count. And it's easy on the draw too! :eusa_dance:

No it’s not akin to reefer madness. The legal marijuana available in the shops today is extremely potent compared to the weed you bought on the streets in the 1970’s.

It is indeed causing huge problems with many people.

^has a still & a grow op.

Because weed is a lot less harmful than alcohol.

Because being hit on the head with hammers ... many times... is worse than once. :dunno:

Now that's one wicked conjecture.

How about no hits on the head?
:smoke:

Sobriety is obviously the better choice. But just between the 2? Weed wins all day long.

Anything can cause huge problems if it is misused - salt, coffee, fast food

Yes the weed is potent. I actually buy the less potent when I can.

The vast majority of marijuana users are good functional people. As with everything else, there are morons, idiots, those with pre existing mental problems etc.

This is also classic. Stoke fear. Get morons mad. Enable and empower government to "arrest" you. Make attorneys rich. Put good fucntional people in jail who otherwise would be out working their jobs, paying taxes instead of consuming them.

There is only one demographic in America obsessed, fearful, and hateful towards marijuana...

the same demographic that is wrong about everything.
the same demographic that is the only demographic that still accepts the official version of 911
the same demographic that cannot stop voting for big spending big government PRO ISRAEL RINOs

The IQ<5 math invalid anti conservative self proclaimed sub human Pro Israel Christian

But just between the 2? Weed wins all day long.

I look at it this way, so one is a metal hammer and one is a wooden rubber mallet... but that's my opinion and it is not supported by science... yet.

The long term effects of being hit on the head with a metal hammer has not yet been determined.

The 30% thc weed is not the weed of 40 years ago while alcohol content has stabilized in the last 40 years.

It's a study in progress, and the comparative effects have yet to be determined... or if determined, not yet peer published.

Because weed is a lot less harmful than alcohol.
It’s not less harmful. More and more credible studies are exposing the harm caused both physically and mentally through regular use.

This idea that it’s less harmful than alcohol or almost harmless is a myth.

Occasional use is not nearly as harmful as regular use. Many studies are now finding out that there’s no frequency of use which can be considered safe.

So are guns but you are buying them like hot cakes and think you need even more of them. Let's see now ..... curb the availablity of weed or guns ..... what a choice.
