NYT: We Were Wrong About Marijuana

Who benefits more than China, from the increased use of recreational drugs in the U.S.?

Who benefits more from the sale of scotch than The UK. Or France from the sale of moldy cheese?

If recreational drugs were legal, the illicit trade would dry up and we could sell American made fentanyl… made in America, by Americans 🇺🇸

Oh, then you can show us the damage to the military and GDP. Etcetera.

Looking forward to it.
Cruise lines are getting tough on marijuana. And alcohol as a comparison is acceptable. In Florida the cruise lines are tougher than the state.

I have seen the "dulling" effects of Pot. It is a problem that should be acknowledged on a national basis along with the medical benefits that have been acknowledged.
Prime example of that, right here.

That was up from around six million in 2012 and less than one million in 1992.

Bullshit.

In 1992 there were a million people in Los Angeles alone smoking pot.

Why do you think they had to legalize it? They couldn't enforce anymore. Everyone and their brother was smoking it. You go to a rock show, it's nothing but a sea of pot smoke.

More Americans now use marijuana daily than alcohol."

That's a good thing. Alcohol is very bad for you.

This comes as no surprise. Progressive fools are virtually wrong about everything.

Righties smoke pot too. There's a lot on this board.

Years ago, it was found that regular heavy use of marijuana causes a dumbing down effect on the user and stopping it doesn't reverse the effect.
Former Democrat Governor, Richard D. Lamm, said that "one of the ways we destroy the USA is to dumb down its population." Well, poorly run schooling and THC has definitely succeeded there.
These "person on the street" knowledge quizzes videos are embarrassing for the younger generation.

There is a good reason why the pot heads call getting high "Gettin Stewpid."
It's called "slang".
I have seen the "dulling" effects of Pot. .
It's common with anyone who is sleepy. People who fall asleep at the wheel crash every day and it's normally determined that they were on their way home after a long and hard day at work.

..... even in areas of high alcohol use the smell of alcohol doesn’t oppressively pervade the air.
Are you telling me that you've never walked past a bar in Milwaukee when someone opens the door at 11 PM on a Friday night? I don't believe you. :doubt:

I smoked reefer for years. I also used to drink a lot. Between the two, booze got me in WAY more trouble than pot did. Weed was far more mellow and relaxing.

I quit everything decades ago. I'm licensed to drive commercial vehicles so am prohibited from smoking or ingesting THC but if that ever changes, I would likely partake on occasion. I like being clearheaded and prepared most of the time, so would use it as an occasional sleep aid or pain killer.

But I can also live without it as I've done for decades.

AI is much more effective than pot.

It’s Time for America to Admit That It Has a Marijuana Problem

Thirteen years ago, no state allowed marijuana for recreational purposes. Today, most Americans live in a state that allows them to buy and smoke a joint. President Trump continued the trend toward legalization in December by loosening federal restrictions.

This editorial board has long supported marijuana legalization. In 2014, we published a six-part series that compared the federal marijuana ban to alcohol prohibition and argued for repeal. Much of what we wrote then holds up — but not all of it does.

At the time, supporters of legalization predicted that it would bring few downsides. In our editorials, we described marijuana addiction and dependence as “relatively minor problems.” Many advocates went further and claimed that marijuana was a harmless drug that might even bring net health benefits. They also said that legalization might not lead to greater use.

It is now clear that many of these predictions were wrong. Legalization has led to much more use. Surveys suggest that about 18 million people in the United States have used marijuana almost daily (or about five times a week) in recent years. That was up from around six million in 2012 and less than one million in 1992. More Americans now use marijuana daily than alcohol."

It was obvious right from the start. And, one reason crime is up is because the people who used to get arrested and jailed for marijuana use also did a bunch of other crimes. When we quit locking them up for marijuana, they were free to commit more crimes than just that.
