My opinion is that the war was started for all of those reasons, particularly that Iran has been the turd in the punchbowl of the region for more than forty years, and enough was enough.

Well that is indeed part of the equation, but the other part of the big picture was Iran's growing and very central role with China. Tons and tons of military trade and acquisition fueling both economies, not to mention, Iran was a vital source of crude oil (as was Venezuela).

Then there is the whole BRICS thing. We are used to politicians (besides having very grubby paws), of only looking 5 years down the road; Trump is looking 25 years down the road, and not for his party, but for his country.
