I watch some of those welding tutorial short videos sometimes.
I'd love to learn how to weld, just for fun.

I worked at the largest winery in the world. I've seen miles and miles and miles of that stuff. The place looked like an oil refinery. That is a fine weld though. What are you making?
not me, a relative in a plant for steam generation

I tried stick welding in like 10th grade, back when they had wood, plastics, metal unlike today

I sucked......the above is Tig I believe which is even harder

It's a real skill that borders on artistry. Our piping was about the same size to transport chilled wine and they covered that great work with insulation. Heat exchangers were another work of art.
relative has nuke certs and worked in a nuke plant, that's where the weld, each weld has to be x-ray perfect or do it again

it's a long day of welding, wait for inspector, next but easy 6 figures a year

but they don't rush you like it's dinner which is nice

Perfection takes time. Our welders were certified and their welds had to be cut and x-rayed for the their certifications, but once they were certified they did not have to be inspected. I can understand the necessity in a nuke plant though.

Stainless is in a class all its own too.

(I gave up on my only one try)

Very nice weld.

It's really not that hard, just takes practice. Also there are adult education classes where you can learn the basics. I learned the hard way, by doing.

.

Had me fooled too. 😏

Don't get me wrong, I once had ties to a company that made 200 different kinds of stainless including types of its own no one else made, and I fully appreciate the master-craft of perfect welding, but to me, my idea of a great pipe is more like this:
