Noam Chomsky: "Trump is a Political Genius"

There are no "intellectual" conservatives, George. We all work for a living.
How many of you work harder than Chomsky?

All of us.

What would make him do that?....Because he's one of the precious few intellectually honest leftists remaining on the planet.

Nuttier than the entire California central valley, but intellectually honest.
Trump's destruction of the public sector and abject loyalty to the richest Americans shouldn't be obscured by his idiotic antics and clownish behavior. Maybe it's the latter that inspires his base to continue their financial support for their billionaire populist?
most of the incredilbly and obscenely wealthy are hardcore democrats...bezos, zuckerberg, gates, oprah, buffett, george Lucas, lebron...its a long fuckin list

He’s right. Trump accomplished a lot, but most of it was harmful to 90% of Americans. He talked like a populist, but ruled like a corporatist.

Just as the D Party claimed to be against everything Don promoted, but they then back stabbed their base by voting for Trump’s agenda.
Where did you pull that 90% number from, other than out of your ass?
his hand didnt go far enough, now his head is up there too...obviously

You commies will never win. Give it up. America will NEVER be a socialist country, EVER!!!

Now, be a good commie.

Do you mean we will never have a minimum wage?
Do you mean that we will never have a public school system?
Do you mean that we will never have guaranteed retirement?
Do you mean we will not have guaranteed health care for people over 62?

I’m sorry. Did you name the wrong country or do you mean something entirely different when you use the word never?

What would inspire one of the most radical US leftists and arguably the leading intellectual light of his age to give the devil his due and warn against conflating Trump's antics with his accomplishments?

Chomsky lies almost as much as you do.

He has figured out how to make an exceptional fortune while living as a self-described ‘anarchist-socialist’ dissident in a capitalist society he has described as a ‘police state.’

He claims to be constantly threatened with censorship, while publishing dozens of books.

He denounces the Pentagon as the epitome of evil, while making million from his work for the very same institution. As a tenured MIT professor he actually works for the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT, and same is entirely funded by the Pentagon and a few multinational corporations.

His first book, “Syntactic Structures,” was written with grants from the US Army (Signal Corp), the Air Force (Office of Scientific Research, Air Research, and Development Command), and Office of Naval Research.

A Professor of Linguistics, Chomsky is vital to the air force and others to improve their “increasingly large investment in so-called ‘command and control’ computer systems” that were being used in Vietnam. Since the computer cannot ‘understand’ English, the commanders’ communications must be translated into a language that the computer can use. http://www.whatnextjournal.co.uk/Pages/back/Wnext26/Chomsky.html

A self-described admirer of the Black Panthers, who says that intellectuals must combat ‘all forms of racism,’ and complains that America excluded blacks from large parts of the country, owns a home in a town with a black population of 1.1% Bill Frezza, “A Lion in Winter,” The Tech (MIT student newspaper), February 20, 2004

In response to U.S. declarations of a War on Terrorism in 1981 and the redeclaration in 2001, Chomsky has argued that the major sources of international terrorism are the world's major powers, led by the United States. Politics of Noam Chomsky

Chomsky praised the North Vietnamese for their efforts in building material prosperity, social justice, and cultural progress. He also went on to discuss and support the political writing of Le Duan. [-Pacific Daily Report of the U.S. government's Foreign Broadcast Information Service, April 16, 1970, pages K2-K3]

Chomsky was one of the chief deniers of the Cambodian genocide of the 1970s, which took place in the wake of the Communist victory and American withdrawal from Indochina. He directed vitriolic attacks towards the reporters and witnesses who testified to the human catastrophe that was taking place there. Initially, Chomsky tried to minimize the deaths (a “few thousand”) and compared those killed by Pol Pot and his followers to the collaborators who had been executed by resistance movements in Europe at the end of World War II. By 1980, however, it was no longer possible to deny that some 2 million of Cambodia's 7.8 million people had perished at the hands of the Communists. But Professor Chomsky continued to deny the genocide, proposing that the underlying problem may have been a failure of the rice crop. As late as 1988, Chomsky returned to the subject and insisted that whatever had happened in Cambodia, the U.S. was to blame.

This conclusion is the principal theme of what may be loosely termed Chomsky's intellectual oeuvre: Whatever evil exists in the world, the United States is to blame. His intellectual obsession is America and its “grand strategy of world domination.” In 1967 Professor Chomsky wrote that America “needed a kind of denazification.” The Third Reich has provided him with his central metaphor for his own country ever since.

The Soviet dictatorship was not only "morally equivalent" to democratic America, in Chomsky’s view, but actually better because it was less powerful. The chief sin of Stalinism in his eyes was not the murder of millions, but the fact that he had given socialism a bad name. http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1232

A massive welfare state isn't State ownership of the means of production.

BTW, if that's a list of the "successes" of Murican "socialism", I shudder to consider what the failures look like.

Chomsky is babbling shit. His field is Linguistics and he has conned people into thinking he knows politics. He actually gave a speech claiming that the American dream is dead. Now that we have more millionairres than ever before!

Reagan tax cuts - Wikipedia

Millionaires and billionaires are created by the politically constructed laws and institutions that structure economic life in all societies.

Chomsky proved himself as totally anti Israel. He actually parroted the lies of the Palestinian terrorists.
Chomsky lived in Israel for a time during the first few decades of the Jewish state's existence, and he recognized even then how racist many of his fellow Jews were towards non-Jews.

Since then he has been holding Israel to the same standards of human rights as every other society on earth.

The simple fact is Israel was born in the ethnic cleansing of 700,000 non-Jews from their homes, farms, businesses, and bank accounts, and the Zionist human rights abuses continue to this very day.

Trump tapped into something a little crazy, because he knows quite a few people like the crazy. He also got the Republican candidacy and that brings a lot of votes with it too.
Trump has a genius for finding marks.
Somehow he convinced millions of economically vulnerable Americans to vote for a billionaire "populist" by stealing an old lie that Reagan spun:

White supremacy will die hard in America.

He understands that many voters are, quite frankly, stupid. They'll accept lies, they'll believe whatever they want to, no matter how far from reality it is.

Trump and Obama both offered hope. Hope they'd never be able to actually turn into substance. Many people lead miserable lives, they want something to give them hope.
