Noam Chomsky: "Trump is a Political Genius"

What would inspire one of the most radical US leftists and arguably the leading intellectual light of his age to give the devil his due and warn against conflating Trump's antics with his accomplishments?

That is pure utter bullshit.....had Mitch McConnel and his band of cowardly pussies republicans done their gotdamn jobs, Trump would have been in jail by now polishing up his ass ho for another round of prison fun.
WITHOUT MITCH AND HIS BITCHES, TRUMP WOULD HAVE BEEN A NOTHING BURGER AND YOU ALL KNOW IT. ITS BECAUSE OF MITCH AND HIS CREW THAT TRUMP GOT ALL THIS POWER FROM HIS SUPPORTERS, WHOM BY THE WAY IS THE REAL REASON, TRUMP GOT MAGA BALLS. But never ever think for a minute, Trump is this genius....if you research history, you'd see that the most powerful ppl in history, all got wiped out once they lost their backup plans

How's this new administration working out for ya, Tig? BTW, your assessment shows a lot of hate and very little grasp of political realities. Republican establishment types all hated Trump, maybe more than you lot do. But... they knew they couldn't completely refuse to move his agenda because if they did it was political suicide. Who was the last politician you know of who was courageous and self-sacrificing? They're ALL whores and have been for a very long time. Luckily, the end is near for them and their little kingdom on the Potomac. They've finally spent the country into collapse and the party is nearly over. What's coming to America is catastrophic and none of us will escape it. Hope that hate keeps you warm and your belly full.

Chomsky lies almost as much as you do.

He has figured out how to make an exceptional fortune while living as a self-described ‘anarchist-socialist’ dissident in a capitalist society he has described as a ‘police state.’

He claims to be constantly threatened with censorship, while publishing dozens of books.

He denounces the Pentagon as the epitome of evil, while making million from his work for the very same institution. As a tenured MIT professor he actually works for the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT, and same is entirely funded by the Pentagon and a few multinational corporations.

His first book, “Syntactic Structures,” was written with grants from the US Army (Signal Corp), the Air Force (Office of Scientific Research, Air Research, and Development Command), and Office of Naval Research.

A Professor of Linguistics, Chomsky is vital to the air force and others to improve their “increasingly large investment in so-called ‘command and control’ computer systems” that were being used in Vietnam. Since the computer cannot ‘understand’ English, the commanders’ communications must be translated into a language that the computer can use. http://www.whatnextjournal.co.uk/Pages/back/Wnext26/Chomsky.html

A self-described admirer of the Black Panthers, who says that intellectuals must combat ‘all forms of racism,’ and complains that America excluded blacks from large parts of the country, owns a home in a town with a black population of 1.1% Bill Frezza, “A Lion in Winter,” The Tech (MIT student newspaper), February 20, 2004

In response to U.S. declarations of a War on Terrorism in 1981 and the redeclaration in 2001, Chomsky has argued that the major sources of international terrorism are the world's major powers, led by the United States. Politics of Noam Chomsky

Chomsky praised the North Vietnamese for their efforts in building material prosperity, social justice, and cultural progress. He also went on to discuss and support the political writing of Le Duan. [-Pacific Daily Report of the U.S. government's Foreign Broadcast Information Service, April 16, 1970, pages K2-K3]

Chomsky was one of the chief deniers of the Cambodian genocide of the 1970s, which took place in the wake of the Communist victory and American withdrawal from Indochina. He directed vitriolic attacks towards the reporters and witnesses who testified to the human catastrophe that was taking place there. Initially, Chomsky tried to minimize the deaths (a “few thousand”) and compared those killed by Pol Pot and his followers to the collaborators who had been executed by resistance movements in Europe at the end of World War II. By 1980, however, it was no longer possible to deny that some 2 million of Cambodia's 7.8 million people had perished at the hands of the Communists. But Professor Chomsky continued to deny the genocide, proposing that the underlying problem may have been a failure of the rice crop. As late as 1988, Chomsky returned to the subject and insisted that whatever had happened in Cambodia, the U.S. was to blame.

This conclusion is the principal theme of what may be loosely termed Chomsky's intellectual oeuvre: Whatever evil exists in the world, the United States is to blame. His intellectual obsession is America and its “grand strategy of world domination.” In 1967 Professor Chomsky wrote that America “needed a kind of denazification.” The Third Reich has provided him with his central metaphor for his own country ever since.

The Soviet dictatorship was not only "morally equivalent" to democratic America, in Chomsky’s view, but actually better because it was less powerful. The chief sin of Stalinism in his eyes was not the murder of millions, but the fact that he had given socialism a bad name. Discover the Networks | Noam Chomsky

I have mixed feeling on Chomsky.

As an NLP and hypnotism guy, I find his work in semantics off-the-charts outstanding...A serious genius.

But then he tries to parlay that gift into trying to be some political swami, and is a total mess.

Just another example of Zappa's admonition: Shut up and play your guitar.

I'm pretty sure Noam was convinced Trump would lose in 2016, so, perhaps, he's simply recognizing how much has changed since that time?
Well, the "competence" to which Chomsky is referring is a dark competence, the ability to manipulate his base into giving him the power (and most importantly, self-aggrandizement) he needed. And needs.

I've said this many times -- I give Trump credit for this: He knows his target marketing. He identified a large, easily-reachable, gullible, and already-angry and paranoid population, the talk radio crowd, and spoke directly and exclusively to them for five years now. He knew all their hot buttons and he pressed them every single day, repeating the same specific words and phrases over and over again. He has focused like a laser on them alone. That is pure, classic target marketing. So yeah, that is definitely a competence. That is purposeful and not by accident.

most of the incredilbly and obscenely wealthy are hardcore democrats...bezos, zuckerberg, gates, oprah, buffett, george Lucas, lebron...its a long fuckin list
Not any longer than the list of parasitic Republicans like the Koch brothers, Ken Langone, Robert Mercer, Sheldon Adelson...both major parties support the richest ten percent of their voters.

Chomsky's net worth is reported to be around $5 million which is a fraction of what he could have made by working on Wall Street or as a paid shill for corporate propaganda.

The corporate state allows his book sales while denying him regular access to the public airways which qualifies as censorship by any reasonable standard.

The Left has lost the working class.
In the U.S. In the U.K, In Europe.
Trump gave hope to working class patriots across the world.

exactly. The Left gave up on the working class years ago in favor of the welfare entitlement class; people that don’t work. Trump believed that everyone who earns regardless of class should keep as much of their earnings as possible. The Left believes otherwise. It’s that simple.

Chomsky never denied Pol Pot's genocide, but he has repeatedly pointed out how the illegal US bombing of Cambodia created the conditions for a malignant narcissist to gain political control:

Noam Chomsky Maintains the Rage

"'Henry Kissinger would certainly be brought to trial for his role in the bombing, if the world were governed by justice, not forces'"

"PHILOSOPHER and linguist Noam Chomsky says the United States owes Cambodia not only an apology but massive reparations for the B-52 bombing campaign called Operation Menu that killed up to a million people.

"The campaign lasted from March 18, 1969, to May 26, 1970, destroyed an estimated 1,000 towns and villages, displaced 2 million people and, Chomsky says, and helped bring the Khmer Rouge to power."

Amazing what you sycophants will lie about.

"Chomsky Denies a Genocide
The pseudo-scholarly apparatus of quotations and footnotes cannot disguise the true intent of this notorious work of denial literature, which seeks to rehabilitate the radical position on the Vietnam War by systematically whitewashing totalitarian slaughter in Indochina. It must be seen in the light of Noam Chomsky’s previous writings on Vietnamese communism, whose “achievements” he considered “quite remarkable” [1] - as shown, presumably, by the brutal purges in which 50,000-100,000 were massacred and many more starved to death [2]. Chomsky.....apologist for this:

"Pol Pot, was the leader of the Cambodian communist movement known as the Khmer Rouge[3] and was Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea from 1976–1979. Pol Pot's leadership, in which he attempted to "cleanse" the country, resulted in thedeaths of an estimated 1.7–2.5 million people…. he qualified for a scholarship that allowed for technical study in France. He studied radio electronics at the EFR in Paris from 1949 to 1953"

a. "Starting in April ’75, the Communist Khmer Rouge defeated Lon Nol in Cambodia.Democrats, starting with the 1974 budget, refused to allocate another penny, and forbade US military action “in or over” Indochina. Just as the right had warned, the communists began a systematic war on the entire populations of their nation, so savage, it is hard to comprehend. It is estimated that the number of dead numbered between 1.7 to 2.5 million out of a population of around 8 million. "
Killing Fields - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

b. "Frequently found in totalitarian death cults, the Khmer Rouge cadres were mostly teenagers, some as young as ten or twelve, produced by cruelty and indoctrination. Consistent with other communist conquests, the Khmer Rouge began the massive and grotesque project of remaking society from scratch. They began by emptying the cities: every single person in Phnom Penh- including the lame, hospital patients on intravenous drips, the sick and the elderly, mothers who had just given birth, the pregnant, and infants, - everyone was forced to march."
Khmer Rouge rule of Cambodia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

c. "Later, to save bullets, the Khmer Rouge switched to other methods of execution, including clubbing, asphyxiation, and dousing the head with gasoline and setting it on fire. "
Courtois, et.al., “The Black Book of Communism,” p. 611

"....the number of dead numbered between 1.7 to 2.5 million out of a population of around 8 million. "
That's what communists do.

And......that's what you call 'fundamentally transforming' a country!

One must be so indoctrinated that they are oblivious of truth and reality, to every support the fraud Chomsky.

It is a political IQ test.
Chomsky has been called the most important living intellectual by his critics. Who would you nominate?

The Responsibility of Intellectuals

"TWENTY-YEARS AGO, Dwight Macdonald published a series of articles in Politics on the responsibility of peoples and, specifically, the responsibility of intellectuals.

"I read them as an undergraduate, in the years just after the war, and had occasion to read them again a few months ago. They seem to me to have lost none of their power or persuasiveness.

"Macdonald is concerned with the question of war guilt.

"He asks the question: To what extent were the German or Japanese people responsible for the atrocities committed by their governments?

"And, quite properly, he turns the question back to us: To what extent are the British or American people responsible for the vicious terror bombings of civilians, perfected as a technique of warfare by the Western democracies and reaching their culmination in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, surely among the most unspeakable crimes in history."

He understands that many voters are, quite frankly, stupid. They'll accept lies, they'll believe whatever they want to, no matter how far from reality it is.
Trump's genius comes from recognizing vulnerable/ignorant individuals and then crafting lies that will separate them from their money or other forms of support. If he isn't prosecuted to the full extent of the law and spend his golden years in prison, the next authoritarian narcissist who rises on the right will achieve much greater success.

And he won't be prosecuted because the politicians protect their own, fearing they'll be next.
