I can hardly wait to read the rants and rages of liberals about the attack on Human Rights.

“It's degrading.”

Or,

“It's against all the programs stand for.”

And then, of course, they will claim it a War on America's Poor.

As far as I'm concerned, it should be enacted in every state in the Union and an all-out effort should be initiated to keep Congress from trying to overturn it.

Love it.
Every state in the union should do this.
Of course, half the asswipe Libberhoids in this forum - we'd never hear from them again.

"About 12,000 of the state’s residents receiving $15 million annually in food stamps are considered to be able-bodied by Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), which administers the aid. That means that they are between the ages of 18 and 49, have no dependents and are not pregnant or disabled."

Fine...

I have long laughed at the notion that it is somehow "demeaning" to require welfare recipients to work for their welfare.

Tough shit. You don't want to pick up trash along the highway? Starve.

Screw 'em

I would find it hard to believe anyone denying work for welfare is a positive policy. Me thinks you guys just want to manufacture an argument to cause division.

It's a liberal thing. They don't want them working because they would become less dependent. then they would figure out the libs are no good. Hahahahahahaha......

Not only do I feel that welfare recipients should be made to work to earn those checks, they should also be required to submit to drug testing. No work - no check. Positive drug test result - no check. Back in my working days I had to submit to random drug testing in order to stay employed. Seems fair to me.

What a load. Where do think they will end up "working"? At food banks, free clothing centers, soup kitchens, and shelters for abused women and the homeless? Yeah, they're going to blame the need for all that on the Liberals and their big government I bet...

A person should perform "x" amount of community service in exchange for a Welfare check. It's so painfully easy it hurts! Drug tests are a no brainer.

They tried that, several times now. It turned out that the working people were taking the drugs, not the bums as you would call them.

I'd want to work for the welfare but I don't know what kinda meaningful work could be done after all the trash is picked up .

Start with child-care for other people required to work. That's always a problem. And if you don't put in a reasonable amount of support, the courts toss programs like this right out the window. Being snarky isn't cheap.

Wash police cars and fire trucks, clean up after outdoor events, cleaning up city and state parks, community service work.
I promise you I'd find a way to keep em busy.

Picking up trash is a beneficial thing for society. Considering how much trash is visible near US roads vs Scandinavian countries we could use the help. Nothing wrong with it. Strive to set clean standards in countries like Sweden. Very clean. Light years ahead of us in the department.

You truly are an ignorant putz and moronic partisan hack.

During the 90s I worked for my state's public assistance department and participated in implementing welfare reform, including work requirements for TANF and Food Stamp recipients.

Work requirements are old news, perfectly appropriate, and afford dignity to those receiving public assistance because they're actively searching for work.

The answer is really simple. Incentivize hiring by eliminating all deductions for businesses except employee costs. You won't need welfare or food stamps because everybody will be working.

-Raise minimum wage to $23.50/hr. Based on where minimum wage should be using 1970-2013 rise in food, shelter, and transportation.

-Eliminate all business subsidies (deductions/write-off’s/write-downs) except for employee expenses which are deducted dollar-for-dollar on all city, state, and Federal taxes and fees with the Feds refunding city, State, and fees.

-Companies with 300 employees or less, employee expenses above the deduction are subsidized at 100% with funds usually give back to the States.

-Adjust Social Security and private/public retirement and pension payments using 1970-2013 price structure. Remove the FICA limit.

-Back down ALL costs, prices, fees, to January 1, 2009 levels and hold them for 10 years which will eliminate inflation.

-Recall ALL off-shore investments tax free, and disallow any further off-shore investments.

Waste of money every time it's been tried.

Says you and what study? As far as I know, it has never been tried.
That's the problem, you don't know, and you should. Start here:
