It will be Space X and not Artemis

Space X will carry cargo to the moon. They have the spaceship that can bring materials to the moon to colonize it. Artemis is a toy by comparison. This deal is locked in and will happen in 2028.

Unfortunately NASA is limited by budget. I think NASA needs fresh leadership and more funding - but overall, I prefer the market as it give better options.
Essentially, I'm in agreement, although the full power of a government agency and budget can do things that private enterprise can't always equal.
No question that private enterprise is much more efficient, though.

I would wish to see NASA get a large boost in budget so we can start colonizing the moon. Artemis II is the most impressive manned mission in decades, and we need more of it.

So what has Artemis II accomplished that wasn't accomplished by the Apollo missions back when I was a teenager?

I swear, all I'm getting out of it was they went out a bit farther and named some craters.

I must be looking at it all wrong. :dunno:

It boils down to the Rocket Equation.

If SpaceX can prove orbital refueling, then it doesn’t change the equation. It changes how it is applied.

But physics is still physics.

Artemis sent up lookers, Space X will land on the moon with cargo and explorers.

Space X do better, it will carry fuel to the moon.

NASA has contracted SpaceX to provide the vehicle that actually lands the astronauts on the lunar surface. For the Artemis III and IV missions, SpaceX will use a modified version of its Starship rocket, known as the Human Landing System (HLS).

Artemis is just the name of the lunar mission, that is all

space x a private company [soon not to be] did what millions of taxpayer $$$$$ to NASA could not

Just another example at how government fails and wastes OUR money

If they get it to work, it is just when it is done. The private side is the only way we can build a permanent presence on the moon with NASA directives. No one is reporting that Artemus is too expensive.

Kennedy was the president that directed the Government go to the moon and did not live to see it happen.

Trump set this landing up and will hopefully be alive to see men on the moon again.

President Donald Trump
The Artemis moon landing program was initiated by President Donald Trump in December 2017. This program aims to return American astronauts to the Moon and establish a sustainable presence there, with future missions planned for 2028.

We went in the wrong direction with the Space Shuttle fiasco.....You could see that one was a loser a mile away.
Ideally at one shot a month it was designed to build stations and launch shit to other planets. They just couldn't match the plan and of course things went boom.

The space shuttle was actually the Earth shuttle to stations above the Earth. They carried cargo, removed waste and carried crews back and forth. A bus and truck rolled into one.
