Has any president used this authority in the way Trump has? He’s slapped something like $4 trillion worth of tariffs. You might want to reread the Constitution. Congress does set tariff laws, but it has delegated authority to the executive for over a century, from the 1930 Tariff Act to Section 232 and 301 powers. Every president from Reagan to Biden has used that authority. If tariffs were ‘illegal,’ we’d have seen court after court strike them down — and they haven’t.
So, what else you got?
The president’s authority to levy tariffs is limited. He can’t do it anytime he wants for any reason he wants.
