I notice just how distant Americans are from their former monarchy. Only some in the media cover it, it does not even get many views even though the monarchy is known for paying for coverage.

Why doesn't anyone care anymore? Also, where are the "no kings" protests? lol.

It is all quite interesting. No one cares it seems, national indifference. Meanwhile the BBC are probably talking about this all day. The king is also apparently going to visit the mayor of NY also.

Here's the latest

• King Charles and Queen Camilla have just landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland as they begin their state visit to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence. The British royals will be greeted at the White House by President Donald Trump.

• The visit comes as US-UK relations are strained by the war in Iran, with Trump slamming Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s refusal to assist the US militarily. Although Charles must stay above politics, his government is hoping that his US tour can help ease tensions.

• The trip is going ahead despite the shooting at a press gala in Washington, DC on Saturday. After the attack, Trump said he was still looking forward to meeting with the British monarch.

We have had 250 years. You still remain their subjects.

Where are the No Kings protesters?

With that said, I am just glad the two countries are finally getting along again, after the horror of XIden being held in contempt of the UK for his disaster and surrender to terrorist.

How do Canadians feel about the monarchy? Is it anything more than a soap opera?
Most are indifferent. As with the U.K themselves, the demographics of Canada has changed dramatically. Also, especially during the trucker convoy, the influence of the United States was clearly illustrated. We had Canadians quoting "our First Amendment Rights", which had me smacking my palm on my head as we do not in Canada of course.

I have personally always wanted a closer U.S and Canadian relationship. Remember, when as a kid, Canada was probably at the height of its influence (other than our sacrifices in WWII which really provided us immense global goodwill) with Mulroney, Reagan and Thatcher. We should have embraced Reagans liberatarian, anti-Communist freedom of the individual, but, we lost that critical position.

When I was a kid the Queen had some importance in Canada. In cub scouts we took an oath to the Queen, police and military still take an oath to the monarchy which many disagree with to be honest, ditto for citizenship as far as I know.

There was a man from Jamaica decades ago who made news because he refused to take an oath to the monarchy to become a Canadian citizen due to their history. That is how big a deal it was then, as we were starting to divide between the old Country and the New World of America. American presidents going back decades have been ardently at times anti-monarchy. In fact, during WWII one of the sticking points with helping Churchill was that he was a monarchy loyalist and American politicians and citizens were not in any form.

Ultimately today, there is just as much indifference here as in America. However, there are many with direct lineage to the Crown and/or those who 150 years+ ago were given plots of land in exchange for fighting the Americans if my history is correct.

I am mostly indifferent. I do not dislike the monarchy at all and sent a message to the Queens death celebration (it was offered online for global citizens I believe) but philosophically I cannot as a principle support the concept of "G-d ordained rule" passed on through generations. I do not blame them or view them with disdain, they were born into the life, it was not their choice. I am just not the type to treat people differently based on birthright status.

If the Crown had taken a stronger position in Canada in regards to our liberty, allowing a complaint mechanism to the British monarchy for violations here of our Charter for instance, they would have been FAR more relevant.

In truth, the monarchy did not evolve when it should have. King Charles understands this and William definitely does (see how he looks at Prince Andrews? He despises him as a royal grifter who hurt their family name). The loss of Princess Diana was really a major global shift and it was the first time the Queen was losing respect as she initially did not come out publicly, instead supporting her son. After some time, she did come out to see all the flowers laid by the people. Princess Diana could have been a massive boon for the British monarchy, perhaps the most shocking loss of life in my lifetime.

As it stands now they are figureheads and part of our history. The generation before mine was really the last generation that felt a closer kinship. When I was a kid I had a few British teachers for instance a couple in University (all of them tough classes but which helped with my development). I can only assume that is a distant memory now.

Why would we care?
