Do Leftists really mean it when they march around with signs that say, "No Kings"? Hell no, all they want is for their own king to assume power. All they want is the power that they currently condemn. It's all based on lies. Whether they favor an Oligarchy with all the power or just one man makes no difference to me, nor should it you.
And do Libertarians really believe it when they say that mankind does not need a king as well? I believe they do, but they are lying to themselves. They are ignoring the history of mankind that says otherwise as well as their own needs and weaknesses. For example, these Ayn Rand Libertarians are largely helpless when it comes to the power of the collective, whether it being forced to pay higher taxes or need protected from waring armies and/or criminals, etc. In fact, their divorcement from the collective ensures that they will never assume power and be subject to various types of king like rulers and abusers while all they do is sit around and whine about it.
Both groups, however, feed into the lie that mankind does not need a king. Why do we need a king? It is because humanity is sheeple. Both elitist Leftists and Ayn Rand type of libertarians, however, believe that they are not sheeple because they more than likely help lead the Sheeple themselves, thinking that they are above it all. Having more intelligence or wealth than the average sheep feeds into the lie that they need no shepherd themselves. Meanwhile, they busy themselves building WMD's that can destroy the planet that they reside on a thousand times over, as well as build AI which may end up being a WMD itself. In fact, they are largely relying on AI to fix all the problems that they themselves cannot fix, problems that they view may threaten human existence itself. It reminds me of Elon Musk, who gave up trying to rescue the Republic from economic collapse by trying to get a handle on governmental spending. He realized that he could not combat the Beast all by his lonesome, no matter how clever and intelligent he may be. Instead, Elon has been quoted as saying that the Republic's only hope now is for an AI controlled economy that many solve our economic problems for us, otherwise the Republic is economically doomed. Their own admission for needing AI, however, reveals the truth of the matter, which is that they need a Shepherd, so they will try to build one themselves.
I say these things based on a Chrisian perspective where God is the only true King and Shepherd. As Jesus once said, I am the ONLY true Shepherd, anyone else is but a thief. The Bible uses the term Shepherd here instead of king because it is a more intimate kind of leader as shepherds were often poor folk themselves and looked down on in society in Biblical times. Their only incentive to guide the sheep is that they really do care about them verses a king like figure who is cold and distant. From a Christian perspective, the weak need protection, as this need increases based on the increased weakness of those within society. For example, if our child had Down Syndrome, we would not just kick them out into the world to fend for themselves. No, we would take special care to help protect them, and hope that when we die there will be others around to do the same for them. As a result, the Ayn Rand philosophy simply does not work for me as I think we all have a duty to help those in need on some level. But as we see from the Left, they take this line of thinking and tell you how you are responsible to help take care of them as we give them our money and power to do it for us. The next thing you know, they are taking this money to give to Somalian Day cares and high speed rails that are never bult, or Medicaid programs where the money simply vanishes in thin air. But even money that does reach those in need, I heard once that only 9 cents on the dollar actually goes where it needs to go, which is a highly inefficient system. I also believe that charity should not be forced, because it ceases being charity and turns into a tax. And once it turns into a tax, those getting the money are no longer greatful for what they are given. At that point, it turns into an expectation and an entitlement. This is why no matter how much the Left gives the poor money; it is never enough for them and never will be enough.
A good read if 1 Samual 8 in the Bible. It is a story of how the Hebrew nation was set up by God. Basically, there was no human king as God was their king. They had various judges to keep the peace and that was it. However, the people began to clamor for a human king. God then warned the people of the abuses that would befall them if they continued to demand a human king, but they would not listen as God granted their wish. The nation of Israel lasted just two more kings before it split into and later fizzled out altogether as God's warnings all came to fruition. 1 Samuel 8 was also used by Thomas Paine in his pamphlet "Common Sense" that helped spark a revolution against the King George.
But even if you don't believe in God, it is a real story about real people and their inward drive to anoint a king to guide them that we see in all cultures around the world all throughout world history. For better or for worse, it is the human condition that no political movement or revolution can ever fix. It is also what draws us here every day to discuss politics.
