No food stamps for any family of a striking worker

Yep,, there you have it. now deal with it. Pre plan your little strikes and put you some strike money away for you errrrrr rainy day.. stock up on some rice and beans. rice and beans is cheap eating.

This is unconstitutional.

The government does not have the right to punish someone for their union activities.

No but the government has every right to expect a person who is able to work and support themselves to do so.

ESPECIALLY when they HAVE a job that DOES support them.

There you have it.

They like laws that punish Americans for their union activities.

They have NO moral code

They DO if they had a job and they get fired from a company/entity that fires them for working against the interest of that entity to remain solvent so they can HAVE A JOB...

You just don't think these things through, do you?

why dont we let the works decide themselves what is good for them?

I have not read the bill itself. I saw what your article claimed it says. I'd have to see the bill itself to make a judgment here, but IF (big if) the bill says what your article claims it says, then anyone who was accepting food stamps and chose to go on strike would be deciding for themselves what was most important.... going on strike or receiving food stamps. It would be their choice.

It does not seem to me that the bill is not allowing them to go on strike, but rather telling them, "we are not going to go on paying you when you choose to go on strike". That seems to be a rather reasonable statement if you ask me.

Let the union support the workers while they are on strike!

Immie

It is reasonable to anyone who believes in personal responsibility.

It's those who believe that choices don't matter that it causes problems with.

I went out on strike but I was married at the time with a second income. We gave the scabs a hard time when we came back in. If the tables were turned and I was alone with a mortgage, I would have to be a scab and I would like to say I am sorry to all of those I harrassed when I came back in.

Unions are bad. It creates devisiveness where there was none before and there is no need for them now. Keep that union dues and start saving for your children's future!

It's a worker's choice to go out on strike, you get nothing from the government for being a thug. Not even food stamps.

Want to talk about class warfare?

The republicans in congress have written into a bill a provision that anyone related to a striking worker will have their food stamps taken away.

So a single Mom can have her food stamps taken away for trying to strike for enough pay to get off of food stamps.

The right is full on against ANY workers rights.

Why do they hate the vast majority of Americans?

Why should the taxpayer have to pay to help someone NOT go to work.If the person striking feels right in their stance by all means strike but you want everyone to subsidize that effort that doesn't make any sense to me.:cuckoo:

Food stamps are given out based on need. They represent food and allow people in need to eat and nothing more.

There are people that get food stamps because of bad luck and bad choices but in the wealthiest country in the world where we actually export tons of food, we can afford to feed the hungry.

This proposal is purely a political move targeting unions. Unions have been all but wiped out in the last few decades by the government and corporations but there are some that would like to take away any remaining voice of the blue-collar workers.

It appears to me this is a dangerous time time to be striking for anyone. If anything, anyone who has a job should be grateful! Time to think before you act. Hear that teachers?

You mistake tough love for hate.

Ah, tough love. That is why the average worker has seen a decline in real wages during the last 30 years, while the very wealthy have gained in multiples.

I think what you are saying is that it is tough to love those lumpen prole when they have the gall to ask for a living wage.

That is what they told the working men and women in the 'dirty thirties'. Fortunetly we had people with real guts then that stood up to the oligarchs.

Ah my, a fair weather union man. I have nothing but contempt for your stand. Saying unions are bad is the same as saying corperations are bad. Or businesses are bad.

If there were no divisiveness there before, there would be no union there. Simple fact, corperate and businesses created unions out of their disregard for what is a fair wage, and purposeful lack of safety standards.

I agree, if they believe in what they are doing..they can starve for it. Hopefully at the same time go bankrupt and loose their homes.

We and I put myself at the top of the list have lived beyond our means.Ran up the credit cards, bought the big house and the big cars. Not many had enough savings put away for a disaster.Couples were popping out the kids left and right. Now they don't like the way things are going and i don't blame them for that. But why is it the answer to fix things always more spending, gimmie gimmie gimmie.

Some have been laid off and collecting unemployment benefits for 99 weeks......and they want more.Forget about looking for work. They wanna go on strike and collect food stamps as well. You really have to be kidding me with that one. That's what the union strike fund is for.

It's getting really strange out there. The world is turning into that Burger King and the left is acting like that lady in the bikini who jumped up on the counter and started attacking anyone within reach.

And NOW the unions have taken it WAY TOO FAR.

Time for them to go by the wayside. They are becoming tyrants.

So tell me how does a union have ANY power without collective bargaining?

You are the one suggesting it should be illegal.

Federal workers do not have collective bargaining, yet their unions have power. Why don't you explain that, if you can.

15th post
Why should a worker who has decided with their fellow workers to go on strike be punished for their decision by the government?

It is not the governments place to punish them for acting in a legal manner?

Why should they be supported by the government for making a choice where they could not feed themselves and their family?

And Jimmy Hoffa disappeared never to be seen again for his efforts...

Not surprisingly, conservatives on this board are missing the point. Or, more likely, they just don't care. Here is the language from the bill:

strike2.jpg

If any member of a family that receives food stamps goes on strike, then the entire family suffers. And you cons really think that's fair?
