The purported leader Khamenei, son of the previous leader, may well be alive, but I doubt that he is actually running things.

My guess is that Iran is being run three ways: a committee of whatever is left of the Mullahs, who avoid gathering together in one place, high ranking Iranian leaders doing the best they can and getting spotty, but very much binding, guidance from the Mullahs, and military leaders improvising in the absence of reliable guidance from above as military leaders do by nature, be they a General of an division, cut off from the main force, or three privates left alone who decide based on time in service who is the boss.

I give them credit for being single minded, and cohesive in their goal of defeating the United States. But they cannot last long like this. Sooner or later an actual leader of Iran must emerge and for him to function, he must be allowed to stay alive and in power by the U.S.

That will require a compromise.

I'm sure they will do that, and hope for a Democrat or an establishment Republican in the White House in 2029.
