Appreciate the effort post even if it was motivated by a little insecurity on your part. Seriously, thanks for the perspective, even if it lacks some necessary imagination with regards to history.

That said, troops moving around the time is normal however in this case they are going to an active war zone and the admin has been threatening boots on the ground to secure a key Iranian oil facility. Maybe that doesn't happen, maybe it does and maybe it goes great and nothing happens to them. Or they land and things go the wrong way because the admin failed to seriously entertain worse case scenarios, like with Hormuz being closed all the regional energy infrastructure being hit and the global economic fallout - and then we escalate and who knows where that leads.

Every Carrier Battle Group has as MEU SOC attached to it. It's just part of the contingent that makes up a CBG. I get that you have no reference of understanding for that but that doesn't change that fact. What the news is reporting and you are falling all over yourself to attribute to "a build up of troops in preparation to invade Iran" is just a CBP moving into the region to provide all the things that a CBP provides with regards to power projection. Has it occurred to you that securing the Strait of Hormuz might require a larger Naval presence?

We have mendacious, bloodlust fueled, sycophant staffed admin, to borrow a phrase from Trump - the likes we have never seen before, running things which makes it uncontroversially difficult to have full faith in their ability to make the right calls.

How is this admin filled with any more blood lust than the last 3-4 admins?

Sure though I fail to see how that’s relevant the comparison. The problems that we will deal with regarding the current campaign against Iran are completely different than Vietnam. We aren’t even fighting the same type of war in Iran vs Vietnam. It’s not even close. And I’m not talking about the tech difference owns then. Vietnam was an asymmetrical insurgency similar to Afghanistan and post invasion Iraq. The war with Iran even if we ended up invading it would be a conventional style war, that would likely spread and potentially start a regional or global type conflict.

Keep dreaming. Iran isn't going to fight a conventional war with whatever military they have left. That would be stupid. What tanks and fighter jets are they going to fight with? Every analyst says that Iran is a prime candidate for an insurgency type war if it should come to that.

Details include:

1. These troops would be be added to the 5,000 Marines and the thousands of paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division

2. The force would likely include infantry and armored vehicles

3. It is unclear where precisely forces will go in the Middle East, but they will likely be within striking distance of Iran and Kharg Island

4. Trump continues to state he will open the Strait of Hormuz, "with or without the help" from allies
