What exactly do you think that National Guardsmen should have done? Start a firefight?

Is starting firefights with locals part of the NG's mission? Were they even armed and ready for a firefight?

The NG did what they were supposed to do - report it to their superiors who in turn reported it to FEMA.

So the dumbass militias got what they wanted - to disrupt and delay FEMA's relief efforts so their orange god can make political noise about FEMA's performance.
