New State Law Requires New York Schools To Take Moment Of Silence For 9/11

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill into law that honors the lives of those who were killed during the tragic attacks on U.S. soil on Sept. 11, 2001.

Every public school in New York state will be required to take a moment of silence on Wednesday in remembrance of the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001, according to new state law.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed a bill into law on Monday establishing September 11th Remembrance Day at all public schools in the state in order to “ensure we never forget ― not just the pain of that moment but of the courage, sacrifice and outpouring of love that defined our response,” the governor said.

The legislation requires schools to take a “brief moment of silence” at the beginning of the school day on Sept. 11 every year. The bill was introduced into the New York Senate by state Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo (D) this year as another generation of students born after 2001 enters the school system.

Many families in NY were affected by 9-11
It was their finest hour as the city came together
So? Many families have come together throughout history creating untold finest hours. Tell ya what let's mandate a moment of silence for them also..........
If you were asked on September 12, 2001 'Should we mandate a moment of silence during the morning of September 11 every school year?', would you scoff? What made it appropriate to oppose commemorating the attacks on September 11? Time? Divisive politics? Some notion that one side owns patriotism the way Steve Carrell owns 'that's what she said'?

Do I opposite? No, other than reading into what I'm saying where did that come from. It's the real life fact that shit happens, life's a bitch, life's cruel, life's not fair and the real fact they've already had over $7 billion in recognition. It's 19 years later, get over it and move on, our politicians have more important matters to attend to like getting reelected...... Oh wait!! That's what they're doing here...... :eusa_whistle:

I would think most people could be quiet for one minute a year. I don't know why anyone would bitch about that. It only applies to public schools in New York - to “ensure we never forget ― not just the pain of that moment but of the courage, sacrifice and outpouring of love that defined our response,” the governor said.

Ringel05 I agree with your skepticism re: the actual reason for the New York Governor's motivation… Do they have a moment of silence or any recognition for the Battle of Sharpsburg/Antietam in Maryland?

Or a mandatory nationwide school moment of silence every December 7th...... Heck, in twenty years most kids in NY schools won't care and may not even observe it, they'll whisper to each other, joke about it, etc, it will have no meaning to them personally.

I wonder how many of the members of USMB knew of this?

Damage to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu is worse than expected, so it will remain closed indefinitely, officials said. Boat transportation to the attraction was suspended May 6 after one of the vessel operators noticed a crack on the outside of the memorial, Hawaii News Now reported.

I don't like it thanks. Personally I think this "don't forget" is baloney spread through Facebook etc. WTF would someone forget, are we tarded now? Rhetorical question.

The American people didn't need an alarm clock post Pearl Harbor. If a teacher wants to have a moment of silence then cool, more power to em, but a MFing law?

Nothing but government control for political appearances. Another reason Democrats are control freaks and useless.

They are welcome to hold their own moment of silence
Pretty sure they (the politicians) have more important things to do but this at least gets them more votes.........
Why would anyone object to a moment of silence once a year?

Because it's a law, that's why.
