Conclusion:
It is impossible to soundly demonstrate the necessity for, and the efficacy of, a ban on ‘assault weapons’.

Obviously, the attack on "assault" weapons (any semi-auto mag fed rifle) is part of a larger, concerted plan. Being a much smaller market and with media-driven angst created in the public against the very name, once a ban is established, it becomes easier to demand a recall, buy-back or confiscation, and once they get the full public support behind doing that, then they are much, much closer to the real goal of disarming Americans of handguns too.

And of course, in any police state, rifles are by far the first, greater threat; they hold more bullets and shoot over far greater distances far more accurately.

You can be sure that many in high levels of government watch the news in Australia and just drool wishing to do the very same to the people here as there.
