2017: 6 mass shootings, 111 deaths

2019: 7 mass shootings, 65 deaths – down 4.4%
2020: 2 mass shootings, 9 deaths – down 86.1%
2021: 6 mass shootings, 43 deaths – up 477%

1982-2021 – 39 years:

63 mass shootings w/ handguns - 459 deaths
35 mass shootings with ‘assault weapons’ 428 deaths
Weapon of choice for mass shootings? Handguns
Weapon responsible for most mass shooting deaths? Handguns

20,000,000 ‘assault weapons’ in the US
35 mass shootings with “assault weapons” – less than 1 rifle per year.
428 people killed in mass shootings with ‘assault weapons – less than 11 people pr year.
Less than 1 rifle / year… out of 20,000,000 rifles.

20,000,000 ‘assault weapons’ in the US
5 school shootings with ‘assault weapons’ - 1 every 7.9 years
73 people killed in school shootings with ‘assault weapons’ - less than 2 per year.
1 rifle every ~8 years… out of 20,000,000 rifles.

Conclusion:
It is impossible to soundly demonstrate the necessity for, and the efficacy of, a ban on ‘assault weapons’.

It's obvious that handguns are where the meat is.

And rifles are more of a militia weapon than a handgun any day.

Not to quibble...I think there are o er 20 million AR-15 rifles alone, not including the AK and other weapons the anti-gun asshats call "Assault" weapons.....

Yep...knives are deadlier than all rifles every single year......and using the non-logic of left wing, anti-gun extremists...if 73 deaths by these rifles is enough to get over 20 million of them banned, then the over 39,000 deaths due to cars means we have to ban all cars........

If you need a AR or AK, you're living proof you can't shoot, they're the training wheels for amateurs and children.

On October 1 2019 , the website AmericanMilitaryNews.com shared a post headlined, “FBI stats show 5 times more murders by knives than rifles in 2018”:

That was shared thousands of times in less than 24 hours. An additional item claimed the Federal Bureau of Investigation “indicated” knives were “five times as likely to be used [in murders]” compared to rifles:

Yeah, facebook is an excellent source.

In several of the excerpts above, a distinct impression was given that the FBI had contrasted rifle fatalities with knife fatalities. Some of the articles did link to Crime in the U.S. 2018 > Tables > Expanded Homicide Data Table 8. Once again, the underlying data did not contrast knife-related homicide with rifle-related homicide.

It provided totals for the number of homicides (all), at 14,123. From there, it was broken down into all firearms (10,265), all knives (1,515), all blunt objects (443), “personal weapons” (hands, fists, feet, 672), and poison (5, among additional causes). Both “knives” and “firearms” were top-level categories, and rifles (297) was a sub-category along with handguns (6,603), shotguns (235), and other guns (167).

Most of the shootings are not committed by someone armed with a so called "assault weapon."

Hey, shit for brains…..I never saw that article I actually went to the FBI homicide tables in the Uniform Crime Report….you dumb ass……. You can see the two numbers right there…. Knives were used to murder over 1500 people, rifles of all types about 297,if that.

Dipshit...........what is your point?

I use that very table.....it shows that knives are used to murder more people than all rifle types combined, that means, for example, that in 2019, of the 364 rifle murders, not all of the rifles used were AR-15s...

So...what is your dumb point?

Are you really this stupid?

You think you have a point about this Facebook article? What is it? The actual numbers taken from the actual FBI data show that all rifle types are used to murder fewer people than knives...and empty hands by the way.....

All Rifle types include hunting rifles, bolt action rifles, lever action rifles and so on.......

Again...what is your point?

Where is this wrong? I posted that all rifle types kill fewer people than knives.....what exactly is inaccurate about that?

Nothing kills more people quicker than the training wheels weapons.

Semi-automatic rifles in the AR-15 style have been the weapon of choice in numerous deadly mass shootings.

June 12, 2016: A gunman began shooting inside the Pulse, killing 49 people and wounding 53. Orlando Police officers shot and killed him after a three-hour standoff. One of the weapons was a SIG Sauer MCX. The SIG Sauer takes a lot of the form and functions of the AR-15 but with reworked internal mechanics and some other changes. For example, the SIG Sauer is built to handle a different caliber round than the standard AR-15.

The two weapons have so much in common that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms called the SIG Sauer used in Orlando a ".223 caliber AR type rifle."

Feb. 14, 2018: A gunman opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. He killed 17 people and injured 17 others.

Oct. 1, 2017: A gunman opened fire on concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. From his 32nd-floor hotel room, he killed 60 people and wounded 41. Police found 14 AR-15s, plus other weapons in the gunman’s hotel room.

Hand guns are the preferred weapon for mass public shooters, you idiot....and AR-15s wouldn't be as popular if morons like yourself would stop making them popular for killers.....

The Pulse night club was bad because it was a gun free zone......if you watch the documentary series "Active Shooter," you would see that had anyone been armed at the club, they could have stopped the attack........survivors from inside the club stated that the killer even put his weapon down inside the bathroom to wash his face even with people hiding in the stalls......

And the shootings you list? Any of them could have been done with pistols or shotguns...the rifle made no difference to the number of people killed......since the distances involved in the shooting were under well under 30 yards...you idiot.........

The only one where it had relevance was the Vegas shooting where the distances involved were 400 meters.....

Do you understand, dumb ass.....that a terrorist in Nice, France, using a rental truck killed 86 people and wounded 435....more people killed in 5 minutes than in any mass public shooting in the United States.....ever.....

There is only one mass public shooting where the rifle had an advantage in the shooting, and that was Las Vegas, where the range was over 200 yards......but he was also firing into a tightly packed crowd of over 22,000 people, at night, from a concealed and fortified position.......with his initial shooting masked by the concert.

And if the crowd hadn't been trapped in that concert arena, he wouldn't have been able to kill as many since they would have run away or found cover.....since shooting at moving targets at hundreds of yards is almost impossible for all but expertly trained shooters...

At the range of every other mass public shooting a rifle has no advantage over pistols or shotguns.......

again.....at the range of a mass public shooting the AR-15 is no better than a pump action shotgun....as are 2 handguns......you idiot...

Boulder....used an AR-15 with magazines that held more than 10 bullets.. 10 killed.....

Virginia Tech...2 pistols, one with 10 round magazine..... 32 killed.

Do you see that the AR-15 killed fewer people than the 2 pistols?

Boulder...10 killed with an AR-15 rifle and regular magazines ( holding more than 10 bullets)

Luby's Cafe..... 2 pistols....24 killed.

Do you see that the 2 pistols killed more than the AR-15?

Do you know what the difference was between these attacks?

The cops immediately responded and shot at the attacker in boulder, causing him to stop shooting unarmed victims, and then he shot himself....

Virginia Tech and Luby's Cafe, the police didn't get there, and at Luby's Cafe, the one woman who could have shot and killed the attacker had to leave her gun in her car because of stupid gun free zone laws....

Boulder AR-15 with magazines that hold more than 10 bullets...you know, regular magazines..... 10 killed...

Kerch, Russia, Polytechnic school shooting.... 5 shot, pump action shotgun...which means it had 5 shells which is 5 less than 10........20 killed 70 wounded.

Kazan, Russia school shooting....semi-automatic shotgun 5 + 1 or 7 +1 capacity...9 killed, 23 injured

Perm, Russia school shooting.... 4 + 1 capacity, 6 killed, 43 injured

Do you see that the AR-15 killed fewer people than the 5 shot, pump action shotgun?

The difference? The Russian police station was 100 yards away from the school...and it still took them 10 minutes to get to the school...and he managed to kill 20 people with a 5 shot, pump action shotgun....10 more than the Boulder shooter with a rifle and a regular sized magazine...

So again.......in a mass public shooting the number of bullets in the gun magazine doesn't mean anything......the gun doesn't make the difference....

What makes the difference?

1) if the target is a gun free zone, more people get killed.

2) if someone starts shooting at the attacker, they commit suicide, or surrender, or runaway....

That is what you don't understand and don't care to understand since you simply have a mental issue when it comes to the AR-15 rifle.

That rifle had no special advantage in a mass public shooting.

Hand guns are the preferred weapon for mass public shooters, you idiot....and AR-15s wouldn't be as popular if morons like yourself would stop making them popular for killers.....
Not me. dipshit.
I don't need a training wheel weapon.
You nut jobs claim that all the time 'gun free zone'.
'had anyone been armed at the club, they could have stopped the attack..'
An off duty Orlando police officer was there.

Officer Adam Gruler, a uniformed off-duty Orlando Police Department (OPD) officer working extra duty as a security guard, entered the building through its southern entrance, Gruler took cover and called in a signal for assistance. He told a post-incident Police Foundation assessment team that he had immediately recognized that his handgun would be no match for Mateen's rifle.

And the shootings you list? Any of them could have been done with pistols or shotguns...the rifle made no difference to the number of people killed......since the distances involved in the shooting were under well under 30 yards...you idiot.........
Your FOS shit, moron.

Do you understand, dumb ass.....that a terrorist in Nice, France, using a rental truck killed 86 people and wounded 435....more people killed in 5 minutes than in any mass public shooting in the United States.....ever.....
So, the truck is used for driving, not killing.

More rounds, higher capacity magazine, moron.
again.....at the range of a mass public shooting the AR-15 is no better than a pump action shotgun....as are 2 handguns......you idiot...
See above moron.

In May, for example, a military veteran engaged in a standoff with police in Houston managed to fire off 212 shots from an AR-15 before a SWAT sniper killed him. He injured six people with the rifle, all after killing a man in an ambush with a handgun.

This week in Detroit, armed gunmen used an AK-47 and another weapon to open fire on a vehicle, killing two and injuring one more in a hail of 50 bullets. An AK-47 was also used in a mass shooting in Pittsburgh earlier this year, when gunmen unloaded 49 rounds into a crowd of partygoers, killing five and wounding three.

Other shootings have flown further under the radar, likely because they didn't result in casualties. Earlier this week, a man reportedly armed with an AR-type rifle fired between 40 and 50 shots at police officers in Georgia. Nobody was injured.

See, a training wheel weapon for people who can't shoot.

Boulder....used an AR-15 with magazines that held more than 10 bullets.. 10 killed.....

Virginia Tech...2 pistols, one with 10 round magazine..... 32 killed.
With an AR- or an AK- 47, more could have been killed.
Do you see that the AR-15 killed fewer people than the 2 pistols?

Accounts vary but the guy set off a nail bomb too.

Yes, they do in injuries and death.
Nine people died and 27 were injured in a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio in an attack that lasted 32 seconds. The killer used an AR-15 style assault rifle.

You can't kill and injure that many people that quick with any other weapon.
