Well, first you have to understand the phrase “sounds about right”, which is used when the person speaking thinks something may be right, but is unsure, or maybe they agree with parts of the statement but just uses that phrase as a blanket statement. Sometimes people use that statement as a way of saying “whatever”.
If someone throws multiple things at you and you latch on to one or two of them, you might say “sounds about right” to those, but just answer in general.
My point is, they are trying to say Elon said it, but he didn’t say it. Nuance!
