Musk makes billions from China. How will that work now?

Are you under the impression that Elon Musk isn't already intimately familiar with President Trumps plans regarding tariffs?

Given Elon's public pronouncements and his accepting an advisory position with the new Administration I suspect he's figured out exactly how these proposals would affect his businesses and is okay with the consequences.
Elon Musk said this in May of this year:

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says he favors ‘no tariffs’ on Chinese EVs

Published Thu, May 23 202412:43 PM EDTUpdated Thu, May 23 20242:03 PM EDT
  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at a conference in Paris that he doesn’t agree with President Biden’s tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicle imports.
  • “Tesla competes quite well in the market in China with no tariffs and no deferential support,” Musk said. “I’m in favor of no tariffs.”
He has not said anything different since then and that is why people are "speculating" that this issue could be a problem between them (Trump and Musk).

Right now, speculating that this is a problem between them makes more sense than thinking that Musk has accepted it and is going with Trumps wishes. This is money and Musk's reputation in China and one would think that it is important to Musk. Nonetheless,I do not think this will be cleared up until January,

Musk,

Manufactures and sells inside of China. He wouldn't be tariffed on either side.

Musk does not care about money at all. He has a new passion and that is fixing our badly broken government. He doesn't give a crap if he loses billions he is worth hundreds of billions.
A change in policy over electric cars, and tariffs against China would hit Musk hard in the pocketbook. Tesla is currently worth $1 trillion. That could drop by half, as Tesla sales would plummet, without As part of President Biden’s so-called Inflation Reduction Act, which did nothing to actually lower inflation, he created a $7,500 federal tax credit for people who buy an electric vehicle.

Explain to the class how Trump can impose a tariff on cars built and sold in China, Dumbass.

Hey Stupid, any Teslas Musk builds in China is sold over there. Read the link the OP posted, cuz he obviously didn't.

nope, he manufactures in China and sells those there. He does not import his manufactured car into the US

The short range Model 3 SR+ uses LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries are are soured from China

Read my lips.

You're being stupid again

Again, He manufactures in China, so no tariff there.

the big problem that Trumpers have never realized that exists is that Trump's objectives are not necessarily bad, but his incompetent implementation of them is. He is truly incompetent and the worse part is that as a narcissist that he is, he never sees it as something he needs to improve on and he always blames his incompetency on others, meaning the problem never gets truly fixed but blame flies out there, creating even more problems

Trump is INCOMPETENT

So the tariffs Trump put on China during his first term, were a mistake and poorly executed. The illegal immigration’s that curbed illegal immigration were a bad and poorly executed? Interesting.

Their batteries come from China

Yes, the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus (SR+) is sold in the United States:

Sales
The Model 3 is the second best-selling electric vehicle in the US, with 143,728 vehicles sold in 2022.

Cars made in the US, batteries imported from China.

Do the math.

yeah, but batteries aren't made here and there is no US equivalent to use tariffs. They tariff on competition products to bring those back.

Think for once. If Musk didn't import anything from China, he would be in favor of Chinese tariffs, to protect his market share.

If he imports parts (like batteries) from China, he would be against Chinese tariffs.

And Musk is against Chinese tariffs.

It's not rocket science

Tesla relies on China for 40% of battery supply chain: analysis

TOKYO -- Nearly 40% of the suppliers for materials used in Tesla's electric vehicle batteries are Chinese companies, a Nikkei analysis finds, underscoring China's strong presence in a strategically important sector.

Most recently, Tesla has turned to prismatic Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) batteries in the standard Model 3 (from CATL in China, 2021-2023) and possibly also in the 2023 Model 3 Long Range.

Tesla announced its very first purchase of LiFePO4 cells from China's top battery manufacturer, Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), back in 2020. The company's 2021 third-quarter reports then revealed that the company will start using LFP batteries for its standard range models in both Model 3 and Model Y.

How does that translate into Musk "making billions from China"?

And since when does someone have to agree with the President on every issue? Pretty sure there are a multitude of issues Musk disagrees with Trump on.

The OP is nothing more than wishful thinking based on lies.

I am not going to debate individual examples. Even a blind squirrel can find an acorn once in a while.

Having said that, "yes", the tariffs on China were a mistake and mostly because they were poorly executed:

More pain than gain: How the US-China trade war hurt America

as far as the curbing of illegal immigration that Trump put into place, he also did more harm than good as his incompetency caused the following to occur:

A Review Of Trump Immigration Policy

Legal Immigration Cut in Half, Most Categories Blocked: By 2021, Donald Trump will have reduced legal immigration by 49% since becoming president – without any change in U.S. immigration law, according to a National Foundation for American Policy analysis. An April presidential proclamation blocked the entry of legal immigrants to the United States in almost all categories.

Reducing legal immigration most harms refugees, employers and Americans who want to live with their spouses, parents or children, but it also affects the country’s future labor force and economic growth: “Average annual labor force growth, a key component of the nation’s economic growth, will be approximately 59% lower as a result of the administration’s immigration policies.

How does that translate into Musk "making billions from China"?
When the Model 3 was unveiled in 2016, Tesla had 325,000 reservations for the car, which represented potential sales of over $14 billion.

2024 sales: In the first quarter of 2024, the Model 3 and Model Y accounted for the majority of Tesla's production and delivery. Tesla is still selling more than 100,000 units of the Model 3 a quarter, or nearly half a million a year.
