When I was growing up, I lived near the southwestern border of Texas between Laredo and San Antonio, Texas. The small country high school I attended offered mandatory "trap shooting" classes to assure that all students knew how to use a gun and how to use it safely and hit a circular target. They taught that gun use was a patriotic duty, and in the brush country around there we had snakerattlers and peccaries the natives called Javolinas who in a pack could kill younger members of large families if not dealt with several times per annum.

Out in the tall prickly pear cactus and mesquite region they wanted to make sure the older students could take care of younger family members any day of the year. It saved many lives I'm sure. Yes people kill' and when necessary' if you don't kill predators they can and kill small inquisitive children if there is any opportunity. And yes coyotes, wolves and an occasional wolverine can be migrating through ranchlands' and can quite fiercely kill grownups in a pack. And I love animals, but if our wild brothers in nature usually avoid people unless hungry and bloodthirsty. Hopefully you will realize that people who live out in the country in America still are faced with quite fierce predators and need guns to protect their families.

I have lived in New Mexico and I am familiar with the same terrain you mention. I do understand you but I think you are mixing some pears with the apples and now that the Indians have been subdued and the civil war is finished I don't think it is necessary to own a Gatling gun or an M16 and what I absolutely, 100%, definitely disagree with is this:
