Millions of U.S. government workers face a Thursday deadline to tell the Trump administration whether they will accept a buyout offer or remain in their jobs, but still face the possibility of being thrown out of work if they decide to stay.

President Donald Trump's aggressive drive to reduce the size of the government in a matter of weeks is unprecedented. It has caused turmoil in the U.S. capital, and sparked protests and union warnings that it might violate multiple laws.

More than 40,000 federal employees had accepted the buyout offer as of Wednesday night.

Its a great opportunity for some to take the offer and go find another job quickly, those with some decent skills can do this. Its a great chance to put some extra money in the bank.
Of course, it would mean actually getting a job where you are expected to work.....

How much is it going to cost the American taxpayer to install Trump loyalists with no experience in those positions?

Buyouts ain’t free ya know

You put "workers" and "Government employees" in the same sentence. Sorry....doesn't fit. :(

I spent almost 40 years working for the Government. We had some excellent engineers
What bothers me the most is chasing out CIA and NSA experts. I worked with some of those guys and they had skills you just don’t replace with a Help Wanted MAGA sign

Why would anyone want to work for the Government after seeing how employees are treated

I know

Let's see -

Pay those people for 8 months to do nothing.
Pay those people for 20 years to do nothing.

Decisions, decisions.
You, don't think they are going to rehire more? What planet do you live on?

"extra" I don't know -

The percentage of that group that has been double dipping is realistically quite high.

Unlike upper management in the corporate world where they do nothing but golf and eat lunch.

I caught on a long time ago but we'll see how that plan works out when they realize they lost some very critical employees.

Most Government worker are there because it is much easier than working in the private sector.
Career Government Workers are simply not the best and the brightest
Sorry, not sorry.

You really have it bad for the ones that take all the risks and make the country work.

40 years with the government, and look at you now....posting for a penny, fricken worthless.

40,000 took the offer.
3,000,000 federal employees.

That's 1.3% when the target was 10%.

On top of that, I would assume that most of that 1.3% were people that were looking to retire this year anyway so now they get to:
  • Not have to come to work and can defer retirement until September,
  • Continue to be paid,
  • Continue to receive benefits,
  • Continue to receive retirement accrual,
  • Continue to accrue leave that will then have to be paid out as of their delayed termination/retirement date (because why take leave if you are already getting paid to not come to work).

BRILLIANT!!!
