More Anti-Gun Myths... Debunked!

After 8 years of President Hillary, I think we will have some good Supreme Court justices.

U.S. Has More Guns - And Gun Deaths - Than Any Other Country, Study Finds

The United States has more guns and gun deaths than any other developed country in the world, researchers found.

A study by two New York City cardiologists found that the U.S. has 88 guns per 100 people and 10 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people - more than any of the other 27 developed countries they studied.

Japan, on the other hand, had only .6 guns per 100 people and .06 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people, making it the country with both the fewest guns per capita and the fewest gun-related deaths.

Drs. Sripal Bangalore, who works at NYU Langone Medical Center, and Dr. Franz Messerli of St. Luke's Medical Center studied the statistics of guns per capita and gun deaths. They used firearm injury data from the World Health Organization and guns per capita data from the Small Arms Survey to put together a list of 27 developed countries.

They said they carried out their study because of what they said are seemingly baseless claims on either side of the gun control debate.

"I think we need more of what I would call evidence-based discussion and not merely people pulling things out of their hats," Bangalore said. "We hear time and time again about these shootings, especially in the last year or so. A lot of claims are made…so we wanted to look at the data and see if any of this holds water."

Now tell me there is not a problem here. You constantly say the answer is more guns, and we get more guns and more gun deaths. This has been going on for years. And you still insist that your answer is working. A critical mass is approaching, too many Americans are being negatively affected by your answer, and the actions they will force will affect even the guns that I have. You people are the world' s biggest fools. You are working against your own interests.

The problem with these guys…they aren't researchers…..40 years of research show that guns stop far more crime than they are used for crime…..something the medical researchers never look at.

1.5 million times gun are used for self defense

8,124 gun murders.

First your stat was over 2,000,000 times a violent crime was prevented by gunfire. Yet very few of us ever know anyone who has ever used a gun to stop anything other than how to deal with people in a peaceful way.

We proved that was a batshit crazy stat. By mathematics; 2,000,000 times a year is 5,480 times a day or once every 15 seconds every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month, someone would be firing their gun in self defense. Yet most of us never hear a gunfire outside of our window (much less know anyone who actually did this).

It was also pointed out that if the crime is prevented, how can the supposed statisticians know it was going to be a "violent crime".

Faced with this, you've dialed it down to 1.5 million times for "self defense".

Let us know when you plan on dialing it back again so we can laugh at you all over again.

And there's your error, puppy.
The militia is a SUBSET of the people; the terms are neither interchangeable nor synonymous.

The people - in toto- have their right protected by the 2nd.
"...the right of the people to keep and bear arms..."
Not the right of the militia...
Not the right of the people in the militia...
The right of the people.

You lose. As always.

Silly ass, the ready availability of guns in our nation is very much a factor in the fact that we have the highest gun death rate of any of the industrial nations.
Two questions, relevant to your point, that you will not answer:

-What % of the guns in the US are used to commit murder?
-How does this % compare and contrast to the rest of the industrialized nations?

I accept in advance your impending concession of the point.

Add this to the litany of refutations of the Left's lies regarding the God-given right to own and use firearms... .

“There is a compound assertion that guns are uniquely available in the United States compared with other modern developed nations, which is why the United States has by far the highest murder rate,” report Kates and Mauser. “Though these assertions have been endlessly repeated," the statement “is, in fact, false.”

Norway, Finland, Germany, France and Denmark, which have high rates of gun ownership, have low murder rates. On the other hand, in Luxembourg, where handguns are totally banned and ownership of any kind of gun is minimal, the murder rate is nine times higher than Germany. Their source of information? The United Nations' International Study on Firearms Regulation, published by the UN's Economic and Social Council and the United Nations Commission on Crime-Prevention and Criminal Justice.

When Kates and Mauser compared England with the United States, they found “’a negative correlation,’ that is, ‘where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are lowest, and where guns are least dense, violent crime rates are highest.’ There is no consistent significant positive association between gun ownership levels and violence rates.”

In 2004, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences released an evaluation from its review of existing research. After reviewing 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications and its own original empirical research, it failed to identify any gun control that had reduced violent crime, suicide, or gun accidents, note Kates and Mauser. ... .

I don't know about "God Given," ... I'm not big on superstition.

But the right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental political right.

"The question of gun rights is a political question, in the broad sense that it touches on the distribution of power in a polity. Thus, although it incorporates all these perfectly legitimate “sub-political” activities, it is not fundamentally about hunting, or collecting, or target practice; it is about empowering the citizen relative to the state. Denying the importance of, or even refusing to understand, this fundamental point of the Second Amendment right, and sneering at people who do, symptomizes a politics of paternalist statism – not (actually the opposite of) a politics of revolutionary liberation."

You didn't?

So you feel that someone who enjoys precisely the same rights as you; meaning that they are not entitled to anything that they did not produce, thus are not entitled to cripple your good health, or to strip you of your life, are entitled to such?

SERIOUSLY?

Now what are you basing this upon? And please... as a courtesy to the Readers of this board, be SPECIFIC!

(Reader... no specifics will be coming. You need to understand that the would-be 'contributor' has given NO thought to this issue and as such has no idea what it is talking about.)

So how many people were killed in Luxembourg in a recent year?

These countries have low murder and violence rates in general….

So the worst of Europe has a "very low murder and violence rate".

Thanks...that is all the evidence required to prove they are doing something right and we are doing something very wrong.

No…it proves that their culture is pretty much homogoneous….or was……and that they all lived according to shared values and culture….and the effects of World War 1 and 2 created a cultural pacifism….

It is amazing to me that for a society that experienced a government that took 12 million unarmed, innocent men, women and children…and murdered them….would so willingly give all of their trust over to their governments ever again….that is a major cultural difference…..we have one shooting at a compound in Wako, or one violent thug shot in an arrest and we won't trust the government……

Them…..12 million murdered, unarmed people was enough of a lesson for them….

... the ready availability of guns in our nation is very much a factor in the fact that we have the highest gun death rate of any of the industrial nations. ...

Actually... where one removes the areas of the nation long governed by the Ideological Left, the United States is the safest place on earth.

What's more, it should be noted that in the areas where the Left does NOT govern, exists the FAR and AWAY LARGEST NUMBER OF GUNS.

No….wrong again….the average of gun self defense studies, all of those studies available , that do not include police or military shootings is 2 million times a year….in a country of over 320 million people that isn't an impossible number…

The 1.5 million number comes directly from one study conducted by bill clinton's Department of Justice which I use to show you that two rabidly anti gun researchers, who set out to prove the 2 million number to be wrong, created their own study, their own methods…..and found that Americans use guns 1.5 million times a year to stop violent crime……

And a crime prevented is caught in the research by interviewing people and actually asking them…did you use a gun in the last year to stop a crime……

Most people will never be raped….yet it happens…dittos robbery, and murder…and it happens every day…...

Yeah….in defense of the innocent he doesn't say not to….the commandment is "Thou shalt do no murder…" Not thou shalt not defend yourselves….

The gun nuts themselves have testified that the "worst" european nation has a very low murder rate. Fact.

Yes….they have a low murder rate due to their culture. We, sadly, have more violent criminals in our inner cities who use guns to murder people. It is not a gun issue, since other countries without guns have higher gun murder rates than we do….and European criminals easily get all the guns they want or need…they just haven't decided to use them as much.

And never forget….those peaceful Japanese you guys always mention…..murdered between 3million and 10 million innocent civilians too……..

I am not sure why you guys don't understand that……much like the fact that Europeans marched 12 million people into gas chambers is a practice we didn't due….because of our values and culture…that is a difference between us and them…..

Dittos for Russia, China, Cambodia, Japan….

So how many people were killed in Luxembourg in a recent year?

Luxembourg has a homogenous population of a half million people spread across less than 1000 square miles.

Its murder rate is 1.5 per 100,000.

Which is significantly higher than the murder rate in the US, where the US Ideological Left is stripped from the equation.

Yes... it turns out that the Left's "YOU FUCKED ME OVER BECAUSE YOU HAVE SOMETHING I WANT", tends to encourage every facet of immoral, thus criminal behavior.

But it follows that unprincipled, immoral reasoning would result in immoral/criminal behavior.

Now... towards providing an example... in my hometown, which has long been governed by Conservatives... the Murder rate per 100,000 is -0-.

Now move 150 miles to the east and that skyrockets. But it follows that it would, given that the East Coast of Florida has long been governed by the semi-literate minority constituents of Peasantpimp obama.

Liberal OldSchool was sent running crying for the hills yesterday with this topic when he tried to compare the small country of Belgium to the massive country of ours.

But....when compared with an American state of similar size AND demographics to Belgium....he failed miserably.

LOL! Yes... Belgium was too much of a target. They're now down to Luxembourg.

Well you know me... and I've used a firearm to prevent crime, several times.

It should be noted, that had you been the one standing where I was standing, you'd likely have been several injured, if not killed.

Ya see scamp, it turns out that violent criminals aren't subject to being reasoned with... and this is never MORE of a problem than where the looming victim, is YOU ... or any other among the Intellectually Less Fortunate.
