Missoula lawmaker Yoga pants Speedos should be illegal in public Politics

A Montana lawmaker is seeking to strengthen the state’s indecent exposure law, stopping just short of his wish to outlaw yoga pants.

Rep. David Moore on Tuesday introduced House Bill 365 in the House Judiciary Committee in response to a group of naked bicyclists who rolled through Missoula in August.

The proposal would expand indecent exposure law to include any nipple exposure, including men’s, and any garment that “gives the appearance or simulates” a person’s buttocks, genitals, pelvic area or female nipple.

The Republican from Missoula said tight-fitting beige clothing could be considered indecent exposure under his proposal.

“Yoga pants should be illegal in public anyway,” Moore said after the hearing.

Moore said he wouldn’t have a problem with people being arrested for wearing provocative clothing but that he’d trust law enforcement officials to use their discretion. He couldn’t be sure whether police would act on that provision or if Montana residents would challenge it.

This is where I part ways with "family values" conservatives. I don't think that prudes are more righteous and I think it's time we start marginalizing them. My own family is "clothing optional" meaning we don't pressure anyone in our home to wear clothes or not wear clothes. Naturism is the realization of the truth that the human body is not obscene, but beautiful, not something shameful to be hidden, but something to celebrate and enjoy. Europeans have a much healthier attitude toward the human body, not hiding it in insane terror that somebody might see the male or female anatomy. Even here in American, the Prudes have taken over, far more than in decades past where kids skinny dipping was considered a natural thing. Now we think there's a child molester behind every corner waiting to pounce if children have even one moment unencumbered by clothes.

Naturism has been a liberating experience for me. My wife was raised that way and has thoroughly converted my thinking on the issue, so we live and raise our children without body shame. So here I am, a relentless right winger, but I don't at all agree with the prudes who push the agenda of making an obscenity of what God made beautiful.

It should be heralded as good news. Even in Red State Montana, the shrill, malcontent Prudes are not taken seriously. Focus on the Family Conservatives need to continue to be pushed back when they tell people how to act, how to live, how to dress, and what they do in the privacy of their homes. This is happening even in Montana and should be seen as progress.
