McConnell is waiting patiently for the right time to challenge Trump. He may escape by not having to take the risk. Right now Trump has been defanged and is treading water on popularity. McConnell holds the unspoken allegiance of the Republican congress, with the exception the extremists. (crazies).

McConnell will do what he sees as right for his party and he knows that Trump's star has to fade eventually. He'll be there to pick up the pieces and then lead the senate to a large victory.

That's the way I see it anyway fwiw.

The R'ism is confused right now Otis. Their traditional political platform isn't acceptable to the base. Trump promises the opposite of conservatism and has boxed himself into a position of not ever being able to deliver what the base needs and wants. Trump has sold them social reform that would cause the rich and powerful to drive a stake through his heart.

All that Trump has going for him is the faith of his base that he will keep his promises. He can never do that but they still have faith. The day is coming when Trump will have to deliver or he will be yesterday's biggest loser.

Not to forget that Trump has an ace in the hole as long as Biden keeps stumbling along. It's very doubtful that the Dems will keep Biden when they know by now that he's a gift to Trump.
