You realize the school did want to send him home--they told the parents to take him home and the parents refused. The school only failed at that last step, which would have involved the police forcibly removing the student from the school.

We are gun owners and avid supporters of the 2nd amendment. Owning the gun is not a problem. I'm in MI. Huge hunting state. At least 1/3 of our households have firearms.

The gun is not the problem. The parents were negligent with their son's CLEAR mental health crisis. THEY knew he had a gun, they had just purchased a gun FOR HIM, he had access to it, they had practiced together, he was looking up ammo, and had drawn disturbing photos showing him shooting people. They knew all of this. The school did not. They knew all of this and when the school said, "Take him home and get counseling" they refused and left him there.

Again it's not that the parents were gun owners. It's not even the gun. It's that they bought a gun for their clearly mentally disturbed child, who is 15.
