The one big difference is that Americans don't go to mexico and behave like the mexicans and south americans (and terrorists) do here.

The tourist area's are safe in Mexico for U.S. citizens because the drug cartel's own the hotels/beaches and want people to come and spent their money.
But, American's who venture outside the tourist areas into the interior of Mexico are taking a big risk of becoming a violent crime statistic.
