Per Box Office Mojo Melania is currently up to $13.5 million gross. It had a 67% drop from last weekend, but this was Super Bowl weekend, which is always bad for theaters.
It would take a surprising upturn to make enough to cover the reported costs, particularly if the plan is to release this on Amazon in the not-too-distant future.

The movie is making quite a bit for a documentary in the first couple of weeks, but also cost a whole lot for a documentary (assuming it actually should be classified as a documentary). Some brief looking shows that the highest-grossing documentaries seem to have been released in VERY limited numbers of theaters. Some, like March of the Penguins, ended up gaining popularity and opening in more and more theaters. Others, like Space Station 3D, never played in many places (64 is the max number of theaters) and just continued to be played for a very long time. Melania doesn't appear as if it's going to follow anything like the normal documentary pattern. It opened in 1778 theaters and added 225 more this weekend, but it's reportedly going to move to streaming and won't likely remain in theaters for all that long.
