This article nicely summarizes the perennial phenomenon of Republicans proposing reasonable cuts to "Safety Net" programs that have grown out of control, and Democrats claiming that the cuts will result in children dying.

Sadly, the pundit presumes that the Republicans' messaging is getting Out There, when the reality is that our compromised Media are all-in with the Democrats' lies and distortions. Ironically, one of Trump's biggest accomplishments will be used as a weapon against Republicans next year... because the American public is stupid and gullible.

As noted elsewhere in this forum, the poverty rate remains relatively constant, while Medicaid enrollment soars. What is wrong with this picture?

It is this simple.

Democrats garner power and money by offering free shit to the masses.

It is their very simple gameplan.

Get votes using YOUR MONEY.

The Washington Examiner will provide a skewed picture, obviously.

So we'll have to wait to see the finished product once it is signed and fully distributed.

I suspect reality will ultimately be somewhere in between the two extremes, as usual.

Did you guys actually read the article? The author wants to increase Medicaid reimbursement rates, as if that’s ever going to be a legitimate option.

She’s just not a serious person.

dimocrap scum politicians steal money from people that work for it and give it to people that vote for dimocrap scum politicians

dimocrap scum voters (the lowest form of life on Earth) vote for politicians that will steal money for them.

Republican Voters vote for people who won't steal money from them.

It's a bit hypocritical how the author berates Dems for providing stories of actual people impacted by trump's giveaway to the wealthy that "pull on the heartstrings," while opening the article with a bullshit story designed to demonize Medicaid and make Repubs feel better.

What is the impact of unwinding on Medicaid enrollment?

Net enrollment has declined by 11.78M individuals, including 4.8M children.

In one of the most cravenly cynical moves I've ever seen the tax cuts get enacted right away but cuts to things like Medicaid get delayed until after the midterms.

At the core of Republicans’ newly finalized domestic policy package is an important political calculation. It provides its most generous tax breaks early on and reserves some of its most painful benefit cuts until after the 2026 midterm elections.

The result is a soon-to-be enacted law that may generate bigger refunds for some taxpayers when they file their returns next spring, even as a series of significant changes to Medicaid and other aid programs loom as a future threat to the finances of poorer families.

Mike Johnson has been at the forefront of the lie about the bill not causing cuts to Medicaid. Largely due to the lies he uses regarding "able bodied" recipients.

Impact of Work Requirements

The CBO estimated that Medicaid coverage would drop by 5.2 million people in 2034 because of the work requirement provision, with 4.8 million being uninsured. Its June 4 letter on these figures said that 18.5 million would be subject to the requirement, though “some” would be exempt.

It’s unclear how many are “able-bodied” and choosing not to work.

Studies have found a small percentage of Medicaid enrollees would fit that description. In an analysis of 2024 Census Bureau survey data, KFF determined that 8% of Medicaid recipients under age 65 and not also getting Social Security disability benefits weren’t working because they were retired, unable to find work or another reason. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that half of that group was retired.

Nearly two-thirds – 64% – were working full-time or part-time, and the rest weren’t working due to a disability or illness, caregiving responsibilities, or being a student.

Johnson has referred to “about 4.8 million able-bodied workers, young men, for example, who are on Medicaid and not working. They are choosing not to work when they can,” calling this “fraud.” But the 4.8 million figure is the CBO estimate of the number who would become uninsured due to the work requirements. The House Energy and Commerce Committee, in a post on X, said these were all “able bodied adults choosing not to work.”

It’s unknown how many of those individuals fit Johnson’s description. We contacted the House speaker’s office about this figure and his other claims, but we haven’t received a response.

Tolbert told us she didn’t know if a CBO breakdown would be able to provide details of what types of Medicaid enrollees will lose coverage under the work requirements, such as single adults, parents or those with disabilities.

“It is patently false that the impact is only going to be on able-bodied individuals,” Cuello said, adding that many people with disabilities aren’t enrolled with an official disability determination and instead are in the expansion population.

Trump Officials Are Doing Everything They Can To Obscure The Actual Fallout Of His Tax Bill

They're trying to downplay Medicaid cuts — and the impact they'll have on millions of people.

According to an estimate from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the tax bill is set to have a devastating impact on as many as 11.8 million people who could lose their health insurance.

Perhaps those poor people will show up next year midterms and vote Democratic. And in 2028.

If they don't, they deserve what's coming.

The newly established work requirements — which require many able-bodied adults to provide proof that they’re working, volunteering or going to school for 80 hours a month — are expected to push people who don’t meet these standards off these benefits and make it harder for people who do to prove their eligibility.

I think it's great. Why? Because too many of them don't vote or voted for Trump.
