Extortion by Govt Shutdown: Democrats Want to Undo 2024 Election When It Comes to Medicaid

You talk about undoing the 2024 election like it's a bad thing.

We didn't elect a King in 2024, and Cheeto Hitler didn't talk like he was going to pull health care from millions of people during it. If he had, he wouldn't have won.

You guys had no problem with the Filibuster when it was used to keep us from getting universal healthcare in 2009, because Joe Lieberman didn't like American taxpayers funding health care for Americans. (He has no problem with American tax dollars funding health care for Israelis, though.)

If that were the case, your side wouldn't be so panicked.
The problem is that you liked Joe Lieberman. Now of course he is discarded. Jewish people are a powerful group. They also are scrutinized due to it. The accusations of antisemitism are rising. And in truth they did it to themselves with politics. your party will eventually be anti-Israel. Left wing Jewish voters better figure this out.

I figure NM and OK is mainly due to the large NA populations there.....OR is just FUBAR as we all know.
The only deep green state that reflects “poor rural whites” is WV.

“Will be”? They’re already there. They’re about to elect an Islamic communist who refuse to call for the HAMAS terrorists to disarm!

Link us up to your evidence millions will lose healthcare, Simp.

Not guesses by some outfit that has never been right. Real evidence.

I've never liked Leiberman. I didn't like him in 2000 when he was half of "Sore/Loserman". I didn't like him during the Iraq War when Americans were trying to extradite themselves from that clusterfuck, and he was on the sidelines with the pom-poms until his own party voted his ass out. And I really didn't like him when he sabotaged our best chance to reform health care in this country.

Why should they disarm? Isn't the right to bear arms the most fundamental right, according to you wingnuts?

"Silly Darkie, Rights are for White People!"

The House passed the funding bill in September, over a month ago, but Senate Democrats blocked the bill in the Senate with a filibuster and forced the government to shut down. Every Senate Republican voted for the bill, but only three Democrats voted for it. The vote was 55-45, and it takes 60 votes to pass a funding bill that's being filibustered. Another vote was held in the Senate just last week, and once again only three Democrats voted for it.

The Democrats say they won't vote to reopen the government unless the Republicans agree to undo the Medicaid cuts as part of the funding bill. In essence, Democrats are trying to undo the 2024 election when it comes to Medicaid funding. The House and Senate voted to approve the Medicaid cuts as part of the tax-cut bill in July. Democrats lost those votes because they lost the 2024 election. They could not block the Medicaid cuts because the tax-cut bill did not require 60 votes to pass, only 51 votes.

I happen to largely agree with the Democrats about the Medicaid cuts, but using extortion to try to undo the cuts by refusing to fund the government sets a very bad precedent. It amounts to trying to undo the 2024 election for Senate votes on Medicaid. If the Democrats had not lost the Senate in the 2024 election, the tax-cut bill would not have included the Medicaid cuts and may not have passed in any form. (If that had happened, middle-income taxpayers would have seen their taxes rise substantially starting in January, because the 2017 tax cuts expire at the end of this year. If you don't believe this, just check the 2016 tax brackets.)

Senate Republicans could pass the funding bill by invoking reconciliation for the bill, which would mean the bill could not be filibustered, which in turn would mean the bill would just need a simple majority to pass, not 60 votes, but Republicans are reluctant to use this "nuclear option" because they fear it will end the ability of future Senate minorities to block funding bills with a filibuster, leaving future minorities just as powerless as the minority in the House.

It would not kill the Republicans to offer a meaningful compromise on the Medicaid cuts, perhaps an offer to reduce the cuts by 50%. Then, if the Democrats refused the offer and still refused to fund the government, the Democrats would be even more clearly to blame for continuing the shutdown.
Trump campaigned on gutting Medicaid?

Nope

Not just Medicaid....

"Panicked"??? Uh, have you seen the polling data? The majority of people understand that the Democrats are the ones who shut down the government by filibustering the funding bill in the Senate. Anyone who knows how to use the Internet can Google the Senate funding-bill votes: every single time, all but three Senate Democrats voted against the bill. The House passed the funding bill last month.

And you forget how loudly the Democrats whined about the filibuster when the Republicans used it. But, nah, it's totally okay when Dems do it!

What the Dems are trying to do sets a terrible precedent. If they succeed, they will have no room to complain when the Republicans do the same thing the next time they lose an election and want to use a funding bill as a way to try to get by extortion what they couldn't get at the ballot box.

Really, Axis Mikey?

Anything to stop Trump is moral. Trump is literally Hitler.

By the time Trump gets done ratfucking the economy, there won't be enough Republicans in the Senate to do much of anything.

JoeB131: Trump is literally Hitler.

What an appallingly ignorant, absurd statement. This ranks right up there with your "Hitler wasn't the problem" statement and your rantings about a Zionist conspiracy to rule the world.

If Trump were Hitler, he would not be ardently supporting Israel; he would not have attacked Iran and given Israel the green light to get tough with Hamas; he would not have increased aid to Israel; he would not be denouncing far-left neo-Nazi anti-Semitism and far-left support for Hamas.

Anyway, moving on from JoeB131's latest lunacy:

If the legacy media would tell the truth about Schumer and Jeffries' demands for reopening the government, enough Senate Democrats would feel enough heat from voters that they'd abandon Schumer and vote to fund the government.

If the media would tell the truth about the staggering waste and fraud in Medicaid, many people would feel less opposed to the Medicaid cuts and would put pressure on Senate Democrats to stop filibustering funding the government. I have no problem with the measures to reduce fraud and waste in Medicaid, but I think it was a mistake to undo Medicaid expansion.

For that matter, if the media would tell the American people the truth about all the garbage the Democrats are pushing, they'd lose at least four or five seats in the Senate and at least 20 in the House.

If you think Nazism was just about "Hating Jews" you are missing the point, as usual. Trump is a Nazi. Netanyahu is a Nazi. Putin is a Nazi.

Actually, most people support Medicaid because that means Nana is getting her nursing home paid for so she doesn't have to live with them. That's where most of the Medicaid money goes, taking care of the elderly beyond what Medicare does.

While I know you delight at the thought of pulling health coverage from young black children, the reality is young people aren't really where the bulk of our health care spending (Government and private) is.
