He was a lousy campaigner in 2008. He should have beaten that worthless affirmative action commie Muslim asshole Obama but he was too wishy washy to energize the Conservative base. Palin got him a few million more votes than he would have got.

Astonishingly, McCain would not only be allowed to continue serving in the Navy, but would go on to be responsible for the deaths of numerous other men, in a scandal that has been successfully buried for decades.

If indeed this is true, it is not unexpected and so very sad. We have few statesmen, few people willing to cross the aisle and work with the other side, and fewer still who regard their political jobs as a service. I did not always agree with him, but I respected him, a lot. I am sure many will villify him, but to start an OP on his death with a remark about Trump is a disgusting politicization of a sad event.

I met John McCain once. He was approachable, friendly and intelligent. When he ran in 2000 against Bush I supported him. The way Bush and Rove trashed him was unforgivable. I could never understand the rapprochement afterwards personally, but McCain was a team player. A team player with the soul of an iconoclast.

He was an American patriot. A class act at times. I did not agree with him all the time but he always put America first.

The America of John McCain, the one that both sides of the aisle would or could work together, is not dead it is asleep. America needs a John McCain more than ever today,

He will be missed.

As a fellow Vietnam Veteran I would like to have respected him but to me he was never a class act.

He never really had any Conservative principles. He was spiteful and arrogant. Fickled in his voting record and flawed in his personal life.

I did not vote for him in 2008. I voted for a real Conservative. McCain did not demonstrate to me that he knew what he was doing. He should have soundly beat that worthless Obama idiot but he didn't have the courage to do what was necessary.
