Just as many have left lands and family for the sake of the Gospel of Christ, so too, have many left lands and family for the sake of mammon. Christ has said that no one can serve both God and mammon.-

Matthew 6:24
"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

Depending on which a person desires to serve, the person can ONLY serve that one. A man who desires to serve mammon can only serve mammon and not God with mammon. And a person who desires to serve God can only serve God and not mammon with God.

If serving mammon is a 'sin' is unknown to me. Or if it is required that one must NOT serve mammon in order to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. But for those who serve one over the other, the one will be loved and held onto while the other is hated and despised, from whichever perspective of serving you are in. I would assume that those who serve mammon has nothing to do with God, since the one serving mammon will hate and despise God.

Being a 'servant' is also a key word that requires definitions. A servant is not a servant only when he/she wants to be a servant. A servant is a servant to his/her 'Master' at all times until released, by his/her 'Master', from serving.
