Major Car Companies React to Trump’s Tariffs, Immediately Slash Prices for U.S. Buyers

One of my earliest cars was a Nissan sentra-right when they changed to Nissan from Datsun. The thing was was cheap as dirt and had nothing automatic-stick, roll up windows, etc. But man it was a tank. We need to be able to buy cheap cars or trucks again.

They're having a sale on existing inventory. Happens all the time. "Employee pricing". Standard stuff.

Long term, they still need to make a profit.

My goodness, the flock is just fucking clueless.
They will. They give the discount to DAV member's for many years. It's not that much and then they add an administrative fee back in. I bought two fords many, many years ago under the program.

Trump explains it very well.

/---/ I think that mindset of $120k pick 'em up trucks with nitrogen tires and air rides has seen its day.
Maybe the sooper-expensive ones. But the Pick Up Truck is here to stay. It is the number one selling vehicle style on Planet Earth. By far.

Ford doesn't make cars anymore besides the Mustang. Generic Motors doesn't make a car other than the Corvette. Not sure if Stellantis (Chrysler) makes a car anymore. They say their mini-vans are cars but they aren't, they're minivans.

Pick Ups are better vehicles because you can carry stuff, they ride better (longer wheelbase) they're much safer, they're easier to get in and out of, you can see better out of them, they handle inclement weather better..... And the fuel economy is coming around.

And if people really wanted to cut fuel consumption -- They could drive less. Especially the ladies. They're on the road going here and there and everywhere more than men. By far. Next you're on the road, look around at who's driving -- 80% gurlz. 4cereal. In their little roller-skate rice-burners cutting in and out of lanes like jitterbugs, causing accidents.

The guys in the pickups are either working or laid back, enjoying the ride.

My Wife will sit in the passenger seat and correct my every move while white-knuckling a support whenever I drive. Telling me to slow down, watch for this that or the other.

I was watching her the other day without her knowing and she's driving like she's Parnelli Cathy through the neighborhood and on the roads! And she goes out at least 5 times a day now that we're retired.

Whatev. wimmins be crazy

Unfortunately, they don't sell. My next car is almost certainly a Mitsubishi Mirage.

GM still has the Chevy Malibu. Chrysler has the new Charger.

They're big, expensive, thirsty, and totally impractical in many cases. They have little to no secure storage.

Retooling an existing, running plant for a different model is close to a year. Any plant that has been idle for years needs new machinery for what is planned to be built there. And before that, it needs to be inspected and updated to current specs.
No it's not. The "retooling" consists of changing the settings on the sheet metal presses. In a worst case scenario, where there is a major change, the new die will take about two weeks to manufacture the necessary numbers to run the line. You clods clearly know nothing about modern manufacturing processes.

After WW2, most of the world's industrial base had been bombed to rubble. Germany, Japan, the UK, France gor hurt much worse than people know, Italy, Russia, the Dutch, Belgium -- almost everywhere but here.

We made a lot of money supplying the world with the tools to rebuild and start their manufacturing process again. Along with that came Tariffs applied by those economies so they could survive long wnough to become viable again. Had we not let them impose tariffs, we could have flooded their markets and destroyed their economy. Easily.

But we didn't. We let them restrict our imports and even make money off of themin the form of said tariffs.

Meanwhile, they got fat as hell. Japan and Germany got stinking rich, the UK could have too had they not gone full-stupid and went with socialism in the 50's. The French surrendered to -- Somebody. Not sure who.

We didn't do bad either, except for polluting our environment due to our over-production.

But now it's time for that to change. We carried their asses for the past 80 fucking years and it needs to change.

Now.
Yep, Marshall plan, why couldn’t you just say that? That’s how old?

I was referring to more, much more, than just the Marshall plan.

Much more. Japan, for instance. They were not part of the Marshall plan.

Speaking of Tariffs..... Weren't we?

China has banned the sale of certain Rare Earth (I like their version of 'Get Ready' better) minerals to the United States. They're not really rare, they're just nasty to mine and refine.

But I've said in here multiple times that China's biggest problem has always been -- China. They're arrogant. They call themselves The Middles Kingdom because they're convince they're between Heaven and Earth.

They once stopped all research and developent because they velieved that everything that could be discovered was already discovered, they pissed off the Mongols, then they pissed off Britain who promptly got them hooked on Opium (it's more complicated than people think) then they pissed off the Japanese and now they're about to piss off OMB. And even worse -- Me.

If they piss us off, who they gonna sell their rubber dildoes to? Who's gonna buy their bullshit? Most other countries are way more protective than we are so..... There goes China's economy.

And you know what communists do when their economy goes to shit (which it always does).....??

They start Wars.

I predict...... With India. They want nothing to do with Japan. Japan will kick thier asses for them. Taiwan would hurt them. Badly. Plus. a lot of Chinese citizens have relatives on Taiwan.

I think -- India. Which is a Nuclear power.

Or they could start a War with Russia. But the Russians would probably kick their asses too.

socialists and communists always fuck thing up. Always. Every time. China has a good thing going with their State-Directed Capitalism but their communist party is still -- communist. And communists are stupid. Can't face adversity without wanting to kill somebody. Always.

So I'm thinking -- India.

Chopper been circling the area for a while. Probably the Sheriff looking for a bad guy. I could check the News but they won't put out anything until they get him. And just as likely, in Lee County, FL, they'll just shoot him anyway. Saves money.

That's because of asinine CAFE standards.
True

Along with production and environmental standards that china does not have to meet

And probably mexico too

Cars made in Mexico for the US market need to meet CAFE standards, but there are ZERO environmental protection laws.

CAFE standards yes

The same goes for the chicoms

But not worker health, safety and US wages

Or expensive environmental regulations that American produces have

Those need to go.
Disagree. :cheers2:

The EPA needs to go. It is THE most corrupt, most Anti-American piece of shit -- Not just in Government but possibly in the Country.

They were giving hiring preferences to Eco-Terrorists at one time. Carol Browner, an out-and-out socialist and an executive of socialist International headed the EPA for 8 (eight) years under The Rapist.

People want to know why Blue Collar jobs are disappearing? The EPA is why. They're killing our industrial base on purpose. Among other things

Look up all the bullshit that CAFE regs cause.

Not just the EPA but California regulations that wind up being the standard for America

I believe trump has addressed some of that already

The plants already exist. They just need to be reopened. That can be done very, very quickly.

And yeah, it explains a lot about just how ignorant you are.

A lot of them are in Hostile, dimocrap scum territory. When I heard OMB talk about re-opening auto plants, I was skeptical.

Not saying you're wrong, but I am saying it might not be all that easy. Still worth a shot though

CAFE standards are regulated by DOT's National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA sets and enforces the CAFE standards, while the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) calculates average fuel economy levels for manufacturers, and also sets related GHG standards. Aug 11, 2014

Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards

Look up all the bullshit that CAFE regs cause.
It's why Generic Motors, Ford and Chrysler were importing and re-badging dozens of models from Japan, Korea and Yugoslavia (which were, in turn re-badged Fiats)

Ford has since learne how to make their own small and efficient engines, GM -- ?? And Stellantis, who bought Chrysler, knows a thing or three about making small eficent engines.

But nope, the leftists had to use a sledge hammer to make a point. They always do.

I bet Ford wished it had a small affordable PU again instead of the 80K+ behemoths they have now....Hell, even their Ranger is about the same size of the new F150 I bought in '99.
I hear they have a compact truck--the Maverick that comes in both hybrid and standard 2L models that are much smaller--4.5 foot bed, 1500 lbs payload. Prices $23K to $35K.
