Major Car Companies React to Trump’s Tariffs, Immediately Slash Prices for U.S. Buyers

Yes they can, but they will still take years to retool and refurbish. Nothing wrong with that. I support it, although I'd actually build those plants in New Detroit (Tennessee) or Texas.
any factory would have to with a new line. Model's change, how do you supposed they do that stay in business? Yep, but the buildings are there. Don't lie and say otherwise

Thats my point. Even a working plant takes a couple of months to retool every year.
The buildings may be there, but they are also likely utter shit.

If you want to build a new plant you need to come to Tennessee, or Georgia (Kia), Alabama, or Texas. Personally I'd be a little less keen on Georgia or Alabama given the hurricanes, but I am biased.

I don't get your point. Are you saying we shouldn't fight for america's middle class?

Being self sufficient and not under foreign thumbs?

Quite the opposite. I am just saying it will take more than a few days. It will require substantial investment, and a steady tariff change, and domestic incentives to build.

who said it would only take a few days? Again, not seeing your point here, other than you seem indifferent to americans getting private jobs.

Worth reading.

Again quite the opposite. But Trump bouncing day to day with different tariff levels like he has been doing is not stable. It sends a message that the rate could change tomorrow or another tariff on type fo the one he just negotiated down, or you could suck up to him and he'll drop the rate again.

The most American made car right now is a Honda Ridgeline I believe
70% of the parts come from the US and Canada
I believe the second runner up is Ford.
Just about every big auto manufacturer in the world has production here in the US
And they're looking to expand and add other models

Gee I wonder why

Any second now some idiot's going to come along and say I'm wrong

F*** is wrong with people the last couple nights
You're not wrong as much as what you say is a half-truth. dims seem to specialize in those.

To use round numbers, let's say a car consists of ten parts valued at $10k.

7 of those parts come from the USA at a cost of $2,000. Which is 70%, amirite? No??

But the other parts, the value added parts, engine, transmission and electronics come from Japan and their total value is $8,000.

Are you following me, here? Good. So while it is correct to say that 70% of the car is made in the USA, it is very misleading.

The Japanese don't like to ship car seats, glass, windows and othter low-value items all the way from Japan. So they 'local-source' them.

We do the same thing to Mexico but not nearly as bad. My Engine, a Cummins, was made in Indiana. I think we also make the sheet metal here. Not sure anymore what-all comes from where. It changes almost daily.

If you choose to believe lying dimocrap scum, that is up to you. But be prepared to be roundly mocked because -- You will deserve it.

so, all the inventory on all the lots pricing automatically go up even though unaffected? That's pretty dirty huh? I'd call that price gouging right?

Why didn't you say anything when the EV mandate went into effect and all households would have to spend another 20k per car to buy them? where were you?

All businesses do that.

When I was running inventory we did a price-averaging deal. If we had 10 items that cost $10 each and 10 of the exact same items that cost $20 each for whatever reason, we averaged them and based our GPM (grossprofitmargin) on $15 each.

Make sense? Hope so because that's all I'm gonna talk about. Gives me a headache

You have me confused for someone else.

yep, the auto worker president just said that

After WW2, most of the world's industrial base had been bombed to rubble. Germany, Japan, the UK, France gor hurt much worse than people know, Italy, Russia, the Dutch, Belgium -- almost everywhere but here.

We made a lot of money supplying the world with the tools to rebuild and start their manufacturing process again. Along with that came Tariffs applied by those economies so they could survive long wnough to become viable again. Had we not let them impose tariffs, we could have flooded their markets and destroyed their economy. Easily.

But we didn't. We let them restrict our imports and even make money off of themin the form of said tariffs.

Meanwhile, they got fat as hell. Japan and Germany got stinking rich, the UK could have too had they not gone full-stupid and went with socialism in the 50's. The French surrendered to -- Somebody. Not sure who.

We didn't do bad either, except for polluting our environment due to our over-production.

But now it's time for that to change. We carried their asses for the past 80 fucking years and it needs to change.

Now.

Great explanation. Thanks.

I bet Ford wished it had a small affordable PU again instead of the 80K+ behemoths they have now....Hell, even their Ranger is about the same size of the new F150 I bought in '99.

Joe and the gang staying staunch and laughing at American suffering with the inflation for 4 years was something we all could enjoy. Let us separate as a nation. Go your ways. Go...Just go.

In the normal course of using my old Dodge 4X4 PU I never needed anymore than the R15-75s that it came with.

It was nice to be able to stand on the ground and reach most anything in the bed....And look at those side vent windows!
