I agree that the more we send to the states, like Education money and delete the Department of Education, the better.
It could be done in phases, weaning the states off Federal dollars, but it would be a Battle Royale.
Oh, it is too big of a job to all be done at once, and the Department of Education would be a decent place to start. It's just an overreach of the federal government and not a specific task given to the federal government in the Constitution. But then again neither is healthcare, poverty, working conditions and wages, along with a much greater list of overreaching. There are many issues that cause problems, and the people could have more say and be more satisfied with the results when handling them in the democracies of the states instead of the federal government of our republic.
It's been allowed to progress and worsen over time due to a misinterpretation of the General Welfare Clause. They put the word general in there for a reason. General welfare is welfare for all. like roads and infrastructure, but it in no way should be assumed it makes one person liable for another person's debt or burden and thus become individual welfare under the disguise of a general good.
However, I am not foolhardy enough to believe that everything can be rectified, although that is no excuse to not to properly address some things we can in the appropriate manner.
