So what happened today was that President Trump poisoned the Democrat's well. Like I said, he gave them an offer knowing damned well that they'd turn it down.
His next move will be to declare a National Security Priority or National Emergency and issue orders for the military to build the wall. At some point in the immediate future, the government will re-open. The Democrats will still have no DACA deal, and will try to sue in order to prevent the wall from being built. It will then go before the Supreme Court, the Democrats will unsuccessfully try to pass a law blocking the funding, and the President will Veto it. It will either be tied up in the courts through the next election cycle, or the Supreme Court will rule in favor of President Trump, and the wall will be under construction during the election cycle.
Either way, the Democrats will be posturing against border security right through an election year, which doesn't bode well for them.
Another issue that's looming on the horizon is that SNAP benefits might be cut off in February. President Trump sees that as a major bargaining chip, and is giving the Democrats time to come to the table for a real compromise before the possibility of that happening.
People seem to think that the underclass would never abandon their Democrat overlords but if the Democrats are the perceived cause of their loss of government benefits, enough of them might abandon the cause, stay home and not vote, or gain a real awakening of how little the Democrats have really done for them. If we get 1-2% of the hard-core Democrats and a good percentage of the swing voters disgusted with the Democrat's lack of performance, we will be far ahead of where everyone expects us to be.
This speech seemed to have some foreboding of government benefits running out soon. This would be something President Trump could use to beat the hell out of the Democrats because of their hubris which has forced them to reject any deal that doesn't include 100% capitulation. Remember, this is the same President who actually brought a murderous North Korean Communist dictator to the table. If he could accomplish that which no other American President could, getting a handful of stubborn Democrats to negotiate with him should be fairly easy.
