The truth is communism and fascism are exactly the same. Hitler's National Socialism was only a little opposed to Stalin's International Socialism. Both of them were admired by leftist/Progressives in America like Lincoln Steffens. FDR's Blue Eagle for the NRA was modeled on the German eagle.
What today are called "conservatives" are yesterday's liberals. Milton Friedman called himself a liberal. And he was right. Liberals oppose state intervention and central planning. Fascists support it.

George W. Bush and his adoring millions loved big government. Flag pins, wars, Fatherland Homeland Security, giving local cops military equipment, spying on Americans, waterboarding. They looooooooved them a big government with a mean streak.

Did both have authoritarian leaders? Yes they did.
So they are more similar than dissimilar.

Now let's turn to Progressives.
Do progressives believe in the absolute power of the state? Yes, they do. Recall Kagan unable to say if government could or could not force people to eat broccoli.
Do progressives believe n waging war? Yes. War on Poverty, War on Climate Change, etc.
So progressives believe in struct social classes to avoid chaos? Yes. How many times are we told if we cut welfare mobs will riot?
Do progressives believe in authoritirian leadership? Is that even a question?? We have people here cheering Obama on to dissolve the Supreme Court and Congress.
Progressves are pretty much authoritarians like Communists and Nazis.
