Let's stop being stupid... Kimmel's bosses were glad to have the excuse

There is no "free speech" issue here; that is a Leftist delusion. No government action was involved.

The First Amendment says and means basically that you cannot be punished for criticizing the government. That is not what happened in this case. The Offender implied that the entire political Right was lying to the public about the assassin's motivations and political stance. Most observers disagree, but that is not relevant. He insulted fully half of the potential viewing audience.

Let's not forget that his program is intended to be funny, and occasionally informative. He constantly bashes the President and any other Republican in the news, and has never been sanctioned in any way. His crime here was bad taste and disdain for those who indirectly pay his salary.

His audience was microscopic even on a good day. If his entire camp of regular viewers were deported, nobody but their immediate family members would even notice.

I heard, that his show was losing 32 million per year. I can't link to it, so I don't know for certain.
That would not surprise me, nor do I dispute such a figure.

Which of course leads to the question, why cancel him now, and not at the end of his contract?

Firing him now doesn't save that much money for the network. . . at least not yet.

Really? Imagine if Biden had done this, what would you have said?

There is freedom of the press. The President going after people who he doesn't like because they don't report him well.

And now this:

"White House takes control of press pool that covers Trump"

Is Trump really going for it now, trying to get control of the press so that he can control it before they kick him out of office?

"Trump Says Critical Coverage of Him Is ‘Really Illegal’"

And that.
It's a good question really.... I don't claim to be above political bias although I do try.

Yes I'm sure that all the people who are downplaying the connection between the White House and the FCC chair right now would probably be up playing it instead.

I believe this is just a corporate opportunistic movement using the White House as a shield to get something done they've been thinking about doing for a while but we're afraid of the political consequences.

As far as I can tell, Trump doesn't care to understand the Constitution. He's worked his whole life as a dictator who gives so little damn about anyone else other than himself, and he's carrying on like this.

He's pushing for "new norms", like China and Russia do all the time. Making this thing that was prohibited, now allowed because he's pushed the line to the point where you can.

Maybe Kimmel was purposely trying to follow up the acquisition deal? That's something that people need to think about. You could possibly be on an under the table payroll from somewhere else seeking to prevent the merger.

It will probably cost them more, as there will be free speech lawsuits, and they will have to pay for SOME content to put in that timeslot that no one will buy advertising for.

Here's the thing. Kimmel's Audience won't watch a rerun of a 10-year-old movie or TV show. They'll switch to Fallon.

And maybe that is the balance that needs to happen. John Carson was the King of Late Night because, for the most part, he had no competition. That Audience of people who can't go to sleep now had three choices. It might be down to one next year.
Yeah, I'm more of the opinion this has really has to do with Nextar trying to make good with the FCC so they can monopolize even more of the market.

More trumped up Trump victimhood.

Completely irrelevant to the issue at hand.
Everybody knew what Trump was the moment he came down the escalator. There have been no big reveals offered by his opponents. His tabloid reputation has preceded him for decades and really hasn't changed much. However the strategy of trying to uncover the "AHAH"..... Dirty secret is going to be completely unsuccessful because there's nothing to uncover.... It's all out there and it has been for a long long time.

Yeah, folks in the DNC are being disingenuous.

They want to use this as a cudgel to attack the GOP, when this is something they have done repeatedly as well.

So, does that mean you voted for him based on his tabloid persona?

The man show moron was correctly fired after exposing his network to a libel suit, blatant dumb lies that were morally deranged, and angering advertisers while he lost 43% of his viewers since Jan. Stupid doesnt even begin to describe this idiot. Liberal does

It's madness. Business can't get rid of slime? They lock themselves in guaranteed contracts for an immoral dishonest buffoon? Do they have to do that? Not a good conduct escape? Without years in Obiden Courts? Like they are doing against Trump trying to cut out the GOVT rot? Harrass & Stall.

Madness. Like Big sports handing out $250M to a dishonorable 25 yr old that can run fast. Uh, many slow way down after getting paid, guaranteed. Pitchers go Tommy John. NBA stars play 40% of games. Always a pulled groin out for weeks. Teachers paid to sit in an empty CA room for years after student issues?

Hint. Tie the pay for all to performance. No good? You're out. The system is broken.
